Zip cable tidy

You know the stuff - that black, grey or white plastic spiral with a little plastic thingy that pulls all your cables into it.

Well, I need a quite a lot of it - enough to tidy up cables from the back of a PC on the floor to a standard desk height, plus enough above the desk to tidy up DVI power and USB cables to two monitors, times 41 desks.

At the sort of prices the likes of Maplin and Focus DIY charge, that's going to be several hundred quid! £4.99 for a bit of twirly plastic made on the cheap in China is unbelieveable!

So, anywhere that sells it in bulk, as cheap as chips?

Use Velcro cable ties or unlocking ties, cheaper and far more adaptable.

So when PAT testing of power leads and swap outs / addition of extra leads required, much easier to do.

I'd also mention things like Cat 5 / 6 / 7 leads and phone leads- they should NOT be bundled up with power leads. Silly if the installers have kept separation under floor and the whole route between cabinet and desk, only for someone to bundle they together and cause EMF / interference.

Thanks Dave.

Chri5 - yes, it does seem daft, but to be honest the building has floorline multi-partition PVC trunking and the installers (power and data) just used that, so the bulk of cables are within an inch or two of a ring main anyway. There's also the fact that the cables all terminate at the back of a PC base unit on the floor / in a tray under the desk, so unless you bundle the two seperately into different cable tidies and route them different directions into the desk, they're going to be near each other anyway. Then, once they're inside the desk, it has a single cable management channel down the middle, so they just get shoved next to each other there...

All I'm trying to do is clear up the clutter of cables under 40-odd desks! :)

Been there done it, try 3500 desks.

This picture is 20mm x 20m with slide on tool and is £32 + VAt at TLC

The gap you refer to is 2 part trunking and comms cable SHOULD be seperated by a physical barrier (which 2 comparment trunking satisfies).

Desk tidy systems normally accept a centre barrier, although sometimes these are removed or not specified when bought.

Since the tidy spiral at TLC is £1.60 a metre, if you can keep the cable types seperate,
