Booster
Have those that have the Wii composite cable noticed a big difference in picture quality when used with a HD TV? Also, how do you access the web on the Wii? Have set it up to my wireless network but I can't find the option for the browser:confused:
Dave
Haven't tried the HD as it isn't really a machine at the cutting edge of graphical design :D I think you need to go to the wii shopping channel and download the browser as a freebie! (if i remember correctly!)
Booster
Ah, that expalins why I can't find it on the options menu+++ Appreciate what you are saying about the graphics but thought it would make it a bit less pixelated. Mariokart arrived today so had a quick go at lunchtime and couldn'y believe how "murky" the picture was! Guess that is because I've been on the XBox so much! (if i remember correctly!) Im not 100% sure on it being free, i know it was at first and people got a beta version and those that had the beta version were upgraded to the final thing free of charge, but i had a Wii around christmas and paid 500 points for it. Not too sure if this has changed.
Hudster
The component HD cable is well worth it for the Wii even though it only supports 480p output. It makes the picture much cleaner looking on my 42" plasma, not pin sharp but definitely much nicer to look at. To be honest, most of the Wii games in the Mario series (Kart etc) are not based around true-to-life graphics anyway so 1080p resolution would not be a massive benefit to the console. Nintendo has always been more fun than realistic.

Fair summary I think - My component cable arrived today, and you can see the benefit on my large (43") screen, although as mentioned above, the graphics aren't going to compare to a PS3! Mine cost about £8 delivered off ebay! Sidicks
CarMad
Yep using component here and its worth the money for the increase in picture quality. On the browser you do have to pay for it now, I think it was only free for the first 6 months ish.
crasher
Yup compostite cable works a treat for me on my 37" lcd panel. As for the browser - it was worth the 500 Wii points just to use the BBC iPlayer.
simon737
Yep, also can confirm that the component cable works a treat, mario kart looks a lot sharper and the colours appear to be a bit more vibrant. Only problem is I didn't have enough slots on the back of the tv as I have the component cable for my xbox 360 so had to put the Wii on the bedroom 32" and leave the Xbox on my 40" in my TV room. So i'm off to trade it in for a newer version that has the HDMi cable tomorrow going to trade some games too and hoepfully pick up a new one and GTAIV without having to pay anything.
