Biscuits
Chaps, Looking very likely we'll be picking up a 130i MSport this weekend. It doesn't have iDrive, but does have Bluetooth and the Business Professional CD. Anyone know if you can retro-fit the BMW iPod/USB interface? It has an AUX input, but would much prefer full integration. Cheers Paul
gizze
Not yet, but it is coming. You can however retrofit the nav.
Maxyboy
i was told i could fit the usb interface but it would be around the 600quid mark due to the amount of work involved.
gizze
No, there is a more basic version, which is a bit crap, the proper one (option 6LF) is not retrofittable yet.
DaveP
I take it you don't have an auto changer? The old IPOD interface that just replaced the auto changer is extremely easy to swap over.
Biscuits
OK, so it's like the interface for my 5... it needs a lot of CAN-BUS programming to get the interface installed. The car does have a CD Autochanger, and the AUX 3.5mm socket. Gizze: retrofit iDrive....... hmmm...... tell me more! It sounds a bit of a nightmare. DaveP
Is it not worth just giving it a try? Takes 5 mins to yank the autochanger out and plug in the IPOD adapter. Does your car play MP3s? I think that is the normal way to guage whether you have a high enough revision of s/w/firmware to make the IPOD interface work. Mind you, it is a dire user interface (even with iDrive). gizze
If the car has a changer buy the Dension 500, this gives you control over teh ipod and plugs straight in, plus you get usb input etc. Nav can be retrofitted, you need a screen, nav computer and i-drive controller, all hooked up with 4 wires, which are all found on the back of the radio, power, ground and can bus hi and low. You need to cut a hole out of the dash in cars without the storage pack mind.

I'll start looking out for them on eBay... won't I need to change the single CD player for the CD/DVD drives, like in my 5 series? The 130i comes with the storage pack, so has the dash bin... I'd not attempt cutting the dash.
gizze
That is even easier then if you have the storage tray, a straight swap. Your radio gets replaced by the nav computer/radio, you will have to buy a piece of trim to go round teh climate controls as these get moved to where the radio is, and then a piece of trim to go round the nav unit/radio to fit your dash, depending whether you have heated seats, stop/start button etc. etc. Climate piece is £8 and the radio piece is £15. I still have a complete business version here, that is the Alpine one with DVD and MP3 and maps, along with the screen and i-drive controller. It owes me around £550, and I had just agreed to sell it to a guy on the one series forum for £350, if you are interested then let me know Paul. What has your car got in it, I think the seller said this was programmed for no speaker upgrade, bluetooth and european radio frequencies, he wasn't sure if it had been programmed for the USB port though, so if you have that it may need a trip to the dealers to say USB is connected, same if you have Logic7 you may find that it needs coding to turn the optical audio on. gizze
By the way all parts have been tested, I tested the screen when it arrived, and then tested the computer when that arrived, the i-drive controller has not been tested but it came out of a car whose nav was working so I know that is fine. gizze
Of course you haven't got the USB port, that is what this thread was about!!
Biscuits
Just been to the dealer and done the deal. Car is immaculate and drives very well. Did about 20 miles and averaged 33mpg, mix of traffic and dual carriage way. Get's delivered on Tuesday night. Only thing it doesn't have is the storage bin in the dash.... B U G G E R I T ! I'm very tempted with your offer mate. Do you know anyone who has cut the space out in the dash? Is the dash likely to be very different underneath, or do you think they cut it out at the factory anyway and use the same dash moulding? It is the only (rather major) thing that worries me. Business NAV... is that the same as the iDrive Pro nav I have in the 5 ???
Biscuits
Forgot to mention, car has: :: Professional single CD :: Bluetooth Phone Prep, cradle in armrest :: AUX 3.5mm jack analogue audio input :: Climate control It doesn't have the USB audio connaction and only has basic audio system... so I think the system you have is spot on for a Hack-Plug-N-Play
gizze
Drop me a PM if you are interested then mate, as I don't want to loose out on selling it to this other guy, but if you want it you can have first dibs.
