NOBLEDRIVER
I notice in some of the Pix shown that you guys use a blue tape - presumably to protect different surfaces from the wrong type of wax. What is it called & exactly why do you use it? TIA NOBLEDRIVE
Luke
i thought it was used to protect the paint/bodywork as it is thinner on the edges and can get damaged, also so polish/wax doesnt get in the gaps too..... i maybe wrong though!!
sbgwz
Il have a stab at this, someone will be along shortly to fix my mess, but im guessing your talking about the 3M masking tape that the guys use whilst doing paint correction, and if i'm not wrong (which I will be) its because they need to mask off areas that are likely to be burnt when using the PC machine as well as window seals and anything that's not part of the paintwork. EDIT: looks like me and luke have the same idea.
ahaydock
It is basically used to stop polish going in/on areas you don't ant it to, especially trim where its a PITA to remove.
drpellypo
It's 3m 3434 tape. It's low tack tape, so doesn't leave a sticky residue behind. With a machine polisher you can do a few very bad things, that the tape prevents. Firstly, you can catch plastic trim with the pad, and it will flash white. Sometimes this can never be fixed. Secondly, if there's thinning near a panel edge, you can burn through. And thirdly, you can burn through plastics, or bubble the paint on plastics (door handles etc.) That's why we make sure areas are taped up as this almost 100% prevents this from happening. Rachel
... almost 100% prevents this ... The marketing phrase of the month!
NOBLEDRIVER
That makes a lot of sense. I only detail my cars 'by hand' but the idea of useing tape make loads of sense to protect areas & stop me having to go over the cars with cocktail sticks to remove the wax that sneaks in joins etc. NOBLEDRIVER
