Ritey
And that's pretty much it for the new version, along with the software update. So when your not using wifi you can get twice the speed with the new 3g connection over the current cloud coverage. More info on the apple site ... bazza_g
then I'll be interested - any idea how far behind the 8gb and 16gb launch the 32gb will be trailing behind?
Ritey
Reckon the 3G launch will use up if there is any left of the 8GB units, and once the initial boom is over they'll drop the price of the 16 make that the base model and introduce the 32GB. When? well that depends on how many followers snap up the 1st batch of 3G units
Mac
Personally I'm not that bothered about the storage sizing - I've had every size ipod from 4Gb upwards and you just learn to live with the storage. I mean my 8Gb iPhone is rarely full and that has music & TV shows on for when on the tube etc. 16Gb would be nice but the 3g and push email is far, far more important to me personally :D
BenjaminTDI
I Really REALLY regret getting mine now. Not just that a 3G version is out, but the 2G version is just so painfully slow on the internet or maps when you're not near a wifi hotspot it nearly defeats the object of the thing.. My other gripes include general bulkyness, crap battery life and random crashing...shame im locked into the contract for another 11-12months now.. bells0
My 12 months is up next month so reckon i will go for this. Never had an 18 month contract before though, the last 6 months could be painful!! Am sure i read somewhere that o2 will swap old iphones for the new versions for free if u sign up to a new contract??

CarMad
It still misses the spot for me, camera average, no ability to record movies, screen res behind rivals, has it got MMS now, no front facing camera for video calls...? It looks great but I don't know why but I'd rather have a touch an a normal phone with cracking battery life and a few good features. Some of the new nokias are full screen coming out later this year that tick all the boxes missing from the above as well.
_Tone_
Is the iPhone just 3G or does it support HSDPA? I only ever use mine on WiFi never use GPRS/Edge as my contract does noy have any data inclusive, If I use data its Wifi or use my work mobile which has HSDPA (o2 Steller) and is quick but rubbish browser makes it prohibitive! Mook
Is it still only on O2? If so, then no, if yes, then I'm getting one. Bazza, I've got a 16GB iPod Tough and I've got about 1300 songs on there, so I don't reckon I would need a 32GB one, but then I buy quite a bit of music and change what's on there quite a bit. BenjaminTDI
benjamin there is free upgrade for you Really? Well that's not so bad then I guess. Having said that, I don't fancy being tied in for yet another 18 months with O2. These mobile contracts are taking the piss, it was bad enough at 12 months. Biscuits
It really ammuses me how people slag the iPhone off "the iPhone is crap, poor camera, no MMS, bulky" I've had all manor of phones and PDA's over the years. PSION REVO, PALM, Windowz Mobiles and the iPhone is the first that reliably does what it claims to. Not once has iTunes fecked up my Outlook diary or contacts (something the other PDA phones all did at some point), the phone works well with all contacts sync'd with Outlook. You get ALL the detail you enter in Outlook calendar sync'd (something an XDA fails to do and it's Windowz ffs) It has it's drawbacks, it's not as neat and tidy as my Nokia 8800 Sirroco (for me the best normal phone I've used and still have as a backup) and its camera is only usefull for bright still images. I don't know of any product that will cater for everyone and I don't believe there is a manufacture capable of pleasing everyone either. As a manufacturer myself, I know that if you try and do everything (Bill Gates) you'll do more harm than good. The iPhone does what it claims very well in a package that has move the goal posts for all touch screen manufacturers...

Finally someone spoke my mind! Never in my life have I felt compelled to send MMS messages, I can still receive them so i'm not bothereed. It really isn't that bulky to be honest. Considering when you put it next to a Blackberry. Which is nowhere near as good in comparison. The camera is good during the day but bad at night. So what? That's why I have a 3 billon megapixel (slight exaggeration) digital camera. No matter how much manufacturers rave about the camera's on their phone, they just aren't as good as a proper which are incredibly affordable nowadays for one twice as good as the camera on the best phone. I had an 8800 Sirroco before my iPhone aswell, and like you said Biscuits it isn't as neat and tidy no. But the iPhone still has a battery life that my 8800 could only dream of. Considering it has a built in iPod, internet and I constantly use it to get my email it's good going. The screen is by far the best i've seen on any phone, regardless of its resolution. And it's also the biggest and utilises every inch of it brilliantly. An 18 month contract aint so bad, and with 02 you're also allowed to upgrade after 14 months of it. Can't wait for my 3G model to trap, i've decided to go for the 16gb model with a white back cover. The EDGE wireless isn't as slow as it was made out to be but having 3G for speedy internet browsing is going to be sweet.

Is the battery in the iPhone user changable? Riz If you're the kind of person that likes the Luna, then the iPhone will be right up your street, trust me on that. My girlfriend has a Luna and the battery life still isn't as good as my iPhone. It still has that same weighty feel as the Luna which makes it feel like a top notch product. It also has scratch resistant glass on the front (again like the Luna). The best way to get the most out of any lithium battery is to keep it topped up and energised. This is usually the case as it's plugged into my computer. It isn't user changeable no, but it's still got the guaranteed amount of charge cycles. I think after 450 full cycles (as in battery fully empty then a full recharge) it's guaranteed to still hold about 85% of its charge. Replacing an iPhone battery if it does wear out is about £70 I think. That's how much it is for an iPod touch anyway.
Mook
Can you change the battery yourself or have you got to get it done at an Apple repair centre? I can see that being a right royal pain in the arse if you do.

BenjaminTDI
Just another point I've got to vent: The other thing that peed me off about this phone is having to buy an 75 quid v-moda set of headphones so I could hear the ipod in half decent quality as the standard headphones are bull****, and you can't use headphones with a regular 3.5mm connector as the iphone has its own connector (you can buy an adaptor but then you lose a bit of quality and the use of a microphone and it's a little bulky too)

tom_hargreaves
that sounds good, so is it a seperate jack next to regular one or what? Nah, it's a brand new jack where the current one is, except it isn't planted into the depths of hell!!! I personally haven't had a problem. I don't mind the iPod earphones and it also has the built in mic with the iPod controls attached to it aswell.
