topgolfer1
Hi all, have a problem with the passenger side folding properly,so had a look, and could see the gear wheel had worn and, remembered that you can rotate the gear wheel 180 degrees, which I have done. The problem is,getting the round circlip down to engage in the recess, as the spring its holding down has got some mighty tension in it.Can this be done in situ?or do I have to take the whole wing mirror out and do this on a bench?Any tips or ideas greatly appreciated. How easy is it to remove the whole housing if needed? Ska
Do not do it in situ, you'll have to remove the assembly. It could pop your eye out very easily. It was a bugger to to do when I did it:
topgolfer1
Thanks Ska for the info, have now removed wing mirror and door card. Will attempt reassemble, in work on Monday, plenty of eager blokes willing to give a hand,as it gives us something different to play around with, rather than the usual tasks of manufacturing anti- ice titanium aircraft ducting!!!!!!!! Ska
I've been down to BAe systems witnessing some crashworthiness testing on behalf of the company which is based in Gloucester manufacturing landing gears.
topgolfer1
Just a little update. You are right Ska,that spring took some compressing to allow the circlip to locate. We knocked up a tube to the diameter of the circlip, then welded a bar across the top of the tube, with the whole assy in bits, put a dressing stake in the vice, managed to get the end of the stake, to locate on the end of the shaft, then yours truely pushing down, using our tube and tbar to compress the spring and circlip.Believe it or not a 3 man job,but like anything in life,if I had to do another one,it would be a whole lot easier. Not had chance to fit it to the car yet,but assy feels a whole lot better,so thanks again.
