Muppetboy
RR, thanks for the photos! I have a feeling it might age quickly... the MkV will always look great in my opinion but not sure about this one. I felt that way as soon as I saw the new Civic back in 2005 at MPH and now I think it looks utterly silly trying to be all futuristic. Glad they kept the Monza's! sternocleidomastoid
Cheers for the photos RR. I think it looks good. Interior looks like a nice place to be and exterior is an evolution on from mark V. I prefer the more aggresive nose of the mark V though. To me though it's more about how the car drives than how it looks so will wait to pass more judgement. Do any other mark V owners kind of hope it's not so good so we can hold on to our cars a few years longer. A less good mark VI then a return to form in 2011 with the mark VII will suit me fine! :ha:

The Mk5 will be a classic along with the Mk1 and Mk2. My GTI is in the process of being further "transformed" to use VW Racing's word. A report will be posted next week - It's got everything and more than a Mk6 has (so to speak), so why change?
Tarmac_Terrorist
I think they will produce a GTI-R although I suspect it will be 12 months after the standard GTI. Whether it comes to the UK may depend on the economy and sodding carbon taxes etc. I personally find the MKVI GTI more visually appealing than the Scirocco. From early impressions I thought the front looked too eurobox ish as already suggested. I think in the metal it will look top notch - photo's of it in white make it look a little plasticky and flat. Assuming it drives as good as the MKV and if I was in the market for a new car for @ £22k,then I think the cheque book would be coming out. Unfortunately I'm not and it won't! JonC
I really don't like that front end. Its weak and let's the rest of the car down. All IMO, of course.
davyk31
I agree ............ I like it too. Looks very classy and a freshening of the current model is welcome. Maybe its only Mk V drivers who don't like it ????

RedRobin
^This looks much better - The lower honeycombe grill is better defined and splits up that awful wide 'thumbs-in-the-side-of-your-mouth' look - All IMO.
davyk31
I agree the Mk V is an excellent car, I had one for two years and still reckon its one of the best cars I have had. Having said that I am excitedly waiting to see a Mk VI in the showrooms as I think it now looks better and as with all new models the previous one looks out of date very quickly. When do we expect these in the local showrooms ?

On the other hand we are critical and so we should be about any new development. "Classy" is definitely not what I seek in a VeeDub GTI - If I did, I would buy a BMW or possibly an Audi. ucjtckc
IMHO it doesn't suit white as much as the MKV did. Might look quite nice in Silver or Met Black... I'll reserve judgement till I see it in the flesh...
davyk31
Disagree about the GTI not being classy Robin. That is exactly why the GTI has a better image than its competitors such as the Astra and Focus. It is always famed as being the car we can have a burst around the back roads and then turn up at the most expensive hotel and not look out of place. Modified cars may be a different image though where the image is very much according to the feelings of the person who owns it.
Cuprabob
Really like the steering wheel and the circular temp and fuel dials. I do think it will look much better in the flesh

Whereas BMW and Audi (just foe example) drivers are usually more definable. I'm generalising of course. In the context of the Mk6 GTI, the interior treatment looks as if it's aspiring more to an Audi standard - Some will welcome this and others, like myself, won't. davyk31
Yep agree with that Robin but do feel that the GTI carries an image of someone with a few more pounds as they are willing to put a bit more into a more premium product. billy2shots
On the whole i like it, but not sure about the seats. The shape of the head rests is not as nice as the mkv's, i loved my leather ones. As for the pee shooters out the back, volvo c30 anybody. Not convinced about the front fogs and Audi R8 slats in the lower front bumper.
HA54SYM
I quite like it too. However was expecting more torque and lower emissions too. And what happened to the day light running lights? I assume Xennons are not standard kit also. Dave
RedRobin
When do we expect these in the local showrooms ? ....Still unknown according to my VW dealer but, as they did with the new Scirocco, I was the first to know and the first to test drive - They've already promised me. Usually the dealers will learn the info at the same time AFAIK.
Snoopy
On the whole i like it, but not sure about the seats. The shape of the head rests is not as nice as the mkv's, i loved my leather ones. They maybe not as nice looking but they have gone the volvo route and they will be much better for you in a crash. Mind your no win no fee man will not like them as they reduce the risk of whiplash by a huge margin. However was expecting more torque and lower emissions too. Looks like they just used the scirocco engine. You were not the only one disapointed. Im disapointed on that front, And because of these two points and also the price rise quoted in the mags which pushes it up another notch again higher than its competition on price. I am seriously considering just buying a secondhand mk5 GTI next year because of the current secondhand market/prices and saying stuff the dealers and new cars as they are a joke anyway and VW is imo just taking the piss on price now. mikemod
I reckon that they will start with that engine and then update to the Audi one when they have used the old stock up. Have to say I like it, need to see it in Red or Black.
Oli
Lets hope they put different wheels on it, those wheels are iconic for the MK5, they should design a new one for the MKVI. And on the GTI-R, did I tell you my order was in.....
Timski
Looks blummin' marvellous if you ask me. I thought VW would have shown a bit more imagination with the wheels though but then nothing radical ever seems to happen with new Golfs - they jusy tend to evolve slowly. I have a feeling this will look far better in the flesh - Diamond Black for me please!
