I'd put money on it that you will be stopped at some point RR, I get stopped every couple of months in my Ford Galaxy because the sidelights are where you would expect to find the fog lights, in fact they are in the same housing as the fog lights, separate from the main headlights with the dipped beam, full beam and indicators.

I've no idea why Ford build them like this, but it often takes a few minutes of letting the officer play with the switches until he is convinced.

....I've no problem at all with being stopped and an officer playing with my switches +++

Yum yum - V8 Ford Galaxy?

With that kind of design, I would trade-in for the 6; only when I'm tired of my 5 though, and I can't see that happening for a while :P
....Like you, RR,I'm committed to my MKV as I adore it, but with features such as these, how can I resist...

Looks like the urge to detail a new GTi was too much for him

Can someone explain to me why the hell we've all started putting ^^^ at the beginning of our posts? If your post directly follows the one above it, it is generally taken as read that you're referring to that post.

Or perhaps use the "Quote" button?

And "...."

What is that all about?! Is it some forum speak that I don't get or something?

I find them in practice to be an effective aid to road safety in that they increase my car's ability to be seen in a very large variety of circumstances.

How have they done that? They are nearly on the floor, Xenon headlights (at the normal height) would be much more appropriate for being seen in the daytime.

....I use it to refer to my post being a direct answer to a question or point made in the previous post. I've been using it for some time on all the forums I inhabit.

It's quicker than quoting.

It's only myself who uses "...." I think. Do you have a problem with that?

....This is a subject which can be debated until the cows come home. Ask a biker if he prefers DRL's at headlight level when it's headlights rather than Audi-style LED strips being used.

And anyway, LED DRL's at foglight level will still be just as easily seen at distance - It makes no difference.

....

And as a biker, are you saying you prefer DRL's on cars at headlight level and probably as dipped headlights?

There have been a lot of protests registered against that by bikers and the reasoning has been that if a biker is travelling fairly closely in front of a car his/her headlight gets confused with the car's and the biker's presence is masked.

Personally with my biker hat on I would prefer that cars didn't use DRLs at all as it dilutes the chances of me being seen while riding with my headlight on. As a car driver I think using dipped headlights when pressing on is a good idea as it gives other road users the opportunity to see me and notice me, which usually makes the move out of the way.

As a biker, I'm not going to see the DRLs in the lower part of the bumper too easily in my mirrors and I really don't think they'd make you particularly more noticeable or visible with a shoulder check either.

....

Tipex - Doubtless you'll see 99% of cars in the daytime but you ain't super human and there are zillions of drivers out there who aren't so focussed as I'm sure you're already aware.

Ben - DRL's are particularly effective at greater distances and consequently will be seen in your bike's mirrors. The LED DRL's work just as effectively as dipped headlights when pressing on as you describe, but without the glare and with the ability to better judge their distance.

Oh well, whether some of you TSNers like DRL's or not, whatever your reasons, we'll all have to deal with them from 2011 as I understand it.

....

Correct - Not a forced retrofit but on new cars only. Hence the discussion of how manufacturers are beginning to incorporate them such as on the new GTI.

Audi, as we know, have been far more forward thinking and have already designed and built their own very stylish (imo) versions.

What I meant by us all having to deal with them was that we all would have to deal with their effect when we are driving.

I dont like DRL`s because my .:R32 doenst have them!

Can confirm the MKIV .:R32 didnt have any front fog lights (would have spoiled the look) or have them integrated into the front headlights.

The new GTi is looking good and the looks are growing on me too...... im looking forward to the Audi RS3 if I`m honest, doubt I will get one unless its seriously good.

Who knows..... in a few years time I "might" go down the modifying route

Not 100% keen on VW dropping the original .:R logo either, including the V6 and 4WD!!!

Nobody knows for sure if the R20 Golf will have 4WD, the Rocco doesnt!

One thing about these new super-dooper active suspension systems is they WILL be very expensive to replace/repair once out of warranty! :o

Personally, thats the only thing I don't like about the R32, that front bumper is just to bland, a set of fogs, or just something around that area would have improved the look no end imo.
