If I wanted a real loon machine for B roads and occassional track use, I'd choose the Feckus RS, but, despite it being more money, but I'd buy a used Evo X over the RS, but not as a dual clutch - it's a superb change - better than the VW DSG 'box, but it's too smooth for a car like that, to the point that you can change gear mid corner at the end of the Hangar straight and it doesn't even upset the car. But there's something that needs to be really raw about a Mitsu. Compared to the Evo 8 and 9, it's light years ahead. I'd need an RS for at least half a day at Donington, Brands or Silverstone to make a final decision though. It's a brilliant, brilliant piece of kit and quite how they get that much power onto the ground just through the front wheels is beyond me. Clever front suspension and a real LSD (not a fake one like the Mk6 GTI that just brakes the inside wheel). Fancy an RS then Dave? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You really need to drive one before you dismiss them as duff driver's car I don't question RS as a great drivers car, although I haven't driven one. It's just not a car I could own. It's nothing to do with the badge, I've owned a few Fords over the years. The thing is, it's just not a car that I find looks attractive. I know the Golf is no oil painting in many eyes but part of the pleasure of owning a nice car is that pleasing feeling you get when you look over your shoulder as you walk away from it. No, it really is :D And that green is really growing on me Would I own one. Erm, no. Nothing to do with it being a Feckus - more to do with the same reason I won't own an Impreza or an Evo. LIkewise, I would never buy either of them, although I do appreciate their performance and handling. Whether people like it or not, their reputation is one of chavism for that very reason. Chavvy is a term which applies to the way in which cars are modified - Invariably all show and no go and in what is considered as very poor taste. However if a wealthy Arab dude (for example) blings up his high performance Range Rover, I wouldn't describe that as chavvy - Different cultures have different ideas about what is good taste and we must respect that even if our taste is different. Cars like the Evo's and Ford RS are 'motorsport' styled ex factory and their out-of-the-box performance specs reflect this too. They might look a bit in-yer-face from some angles but I would never describe them as chavvy - The average chav wouldn't know how to drive one and be in the hedge! It's easy to judge a book by its cover and I pre-judged the new Audi S4 to some extent - I even drafted my review before I drove it! I was interested in the extent of my own pre-judgements. I found that although some of my drafted comments remained, I had quite a lot of significant editing to do once I'd driven it. So, whereas the GTI tries to hang on to the back of a RS and might keep it in view, the Evo will disappear over the horizon - All subject to equal levels of driver ability. Even the Mk6 with 210bhp and 207 torques (Feckus RS is 301bhp and 325 torques) just doesn't compare in terms of straight line speed. And the handling is a mile off - you're comparing wishbone and struts to the RevoKnuckle and (real) LSD set-up as standard. The Mk6 GTI comes with an optional electronic LSD - the way this works is by braking the inside wheel, working in conjunction with the ESP. Very, very clever, but a long way off a mechanical LSD. Don't forget that the RS is the range topper - the GTI isn't and won't be when VW launch the R in 2010 (UK in 2011). I cancelled my test drive in the ACC and DSG-equipped 5dr GTI on Monday. In reality, the only MKVI I plan to buy is the R20. I'd be keen to hear wht you make of it though, RR. Road noise seems worse than my own although that may be tyre choice. Rear "gangsta" tints, make it look van like. The car doesn't really look any different from the standard golf.
