I think the inside headlight is for the indicator and DRLs looking at that picture ?

What do you think?......... or is it a triangle shape as a led under the Xenon

The DRLs are in the same place as they are on the standard Mk6 GTI. The xenons are the dual type, so they just move when you put them on main beam. They've probably moved the indicators to the centre spots because the xenons are too bright - check any of the B8 A4 range to see what they've done with the front indicators when they auto dim the DRLs to see what I mean.

So it'll be the same as the Mk4 R32 - xenons on the outside and nice yellow spots/DRLs

That's what I mean +++

Xenons are only in the main headlight units - DRLs are just like your bog standard 1.4

Is it definitely the case that the DRLs within the Xenons are identical to the standard headlight DRLs? When looking at the VW configurator on their website, the DRL units on the Xenons look to be a different design and size. Unless these pics are simply misleading from this angle.

The inner light units are different, because they house the indicators, but they're not LED - they're plain old halogen +++

Looks like that has answered that question then, inner light is Drl and indicator, this forum is such a wealth of knowledge,

Got a call today to say that my car is on the ship so should be here in a couple of weeks, i am away for most of August so picking it up 1st Sept on a 59 plate

Do DRL's remain on if headlights are switched on then? I would have thought that the DRL's would automatically swirch off

What is the benefit in them remaining on then?

I thought EC regs meant the had to go off when the headlights are on?

....That's correct according to the documentation I have with my Hella LED DRLs - IIRC it's an EC Rule #24. I've read a huge amount of reports and various international proposals on the subject and it seems that, not surprisingly, the UK is particularly reticent in adopting the rules. The rules vary slightly within Europe anyway!

Until the rules are absolutely set, it seems that various car manufacturers are managing to get their own versions passed.

Strictly speaking the Audi ones should automatically switch off when any other lights are switched on (like mine) but this isn't the case on some Audi's I've seen.

....

On the subject of the Mk6 DRLs, I had one follow me for a few miles up the A34 today and particularly studied their effect. It was a bright sunny day and although they didn't dazzle (a good thing) they were rather weak at any distance beyond just a few car lengths.

For being seen (without being dazzled) when fast road driving, I'm afraid that I think my Hella LED DRLs are far more effective, as are the Audi LEDs. The Mk6 DRLs just looked like very dim dipped headlights. When driving fast on dual carriageways I do find that a lot of cars spot my approach and will move over in good time - As indeed I do when I see the LEDs of an Audi fast approaching myself - +++

I'm sorry for always banging on about LED DRLs but it's relevant in what we are currently discussing about the Mk6 and I do strongly believe in their safety benefits.

Perhaps VW will include 'proper' LED DRLs in the Mk7, by which time more defined legislation should be in place.

As the MKVI is based broadly on the MKV I don't think there will be too many issues. VW have corrected many of the MKV issues like the steering rack, DV's, rear LED brake light moisture and rear wiper motor.

The things on the MKVI which could potentially give trouble are the rear view camera (A manually operated hatch handle get's stuck open on some models without sticking a motor and a camera behind it!). Adaptive suspension maybe?
