Muppetboy
Working now... I am really liking that front
Tarmac_Terrorist
It looks quite acceptable - can't really say I like it though. Still think it would look more fitting with a Renault badge on it. I know many consider the MKV to be a bland design overall, but the MKV GTI front does look quite striking and a little aggressive. RedRobin
....I'm not sure if I like it. But seeing what it will look like in the flesh will always make the difference.
Snoopy
Now if they paint that lower section of the bumper we get a cross between this and this and we sort of get or am i seeing things again lol? Its fun to guess. But if its true its going to be show at the Paris show its only 5 weeks and 5 days till we find out what they have in mind. Snoopy
Just read somewere don't remember were that "New GTI mk6 to be £1500 more expensive than the current one". VWuk and Europe don't half like taking the mick don't they ffs. Just wait a moment VW while i bend over and you can shaft me harder while your giving the car to the US for less than half price AGAIN hell why not give them head while your on.... Thanks VW. Tarmac_Terrorist
With the UK on the brink of recession, a price hike like that might not be the smartest of ideas. Still, if they don't sell I suppose they can always discount them by £1500 so punters believe that they are netting a bargain
Snoopy
The thing is you can get near 10% off a mk5 or there about and have been able to at first launch then mid 05 then last year and also earlier this year and ~ now. Your not likley to also be able to get an extra 1500 off on top of that due to margins. I just love the way we get ripped off were the US get its handed to them on a plate and STILL complain. I guess i will have to wait and see but if ths is true VW are taking the p1ss. They make the car cheaper to make they will probably make less kit standard compared to the current model now and they price hike it!. As i said prob best to wait and see but reading that today just boiled my p1ss.. Mind saying that if they do imo they are pricing themselfs out the market compared to there rivals. So once the initial newcar syndrome passes it will serve them right they loose sales. Anyway rant over and i just hope its not true and the fourno has it simply the wrong way round. RedRobin
....Well, for a start, I'm betting that an awful lot of potential Mk6 GTI buyers will wait and see if they prefer the GTI-R or not before deciding.
Snoopy
Some photos of mk6 (not the GTI but gives clues on look of the mk6) taken on a phone in Iceland. Maybe so but its going to make that one more expensive as well. Than say the car it replaces ie the R32. I think its going to get too near the S3 and way above in price of the class of cars like it, the RS focus or the new astra thats due not long after it.. RedRobin
....Good to see those bigger pics of it, Geoff I can't say I especially like the Mk5-and-a-half aka Mk6 - I prefer the less deep rear door side windows of the Mk5 giving the car a more wedge shape. And the front looks identical to the new Scirocco - Kinda devalues the Rocco. And those tail lights are a mish-mash mixture even if they are LED's. Re the GTI-R competing with the S3 etc - I'm not sure that everyone will choose one over the other based on price.
Snoopy
Im not sure what you meen by " prefer the less deep rear door side windows" As far as i know alot of the glass from the mk5 is reused and from the window line up its exactly the same roof pressing as the mk5. Are you saying the crease along the door makes the window look different in some way? Im not a fan of the back lights either im told the GTIs will be different but how different is the key really. I also don't like the crome round the MFSW buttons. Edited August 28, 2008 by Snoopy
RedRobin
....I read the feature in "What Car?" mag in WHSmith library this morning and it said it had been done to allow more light into the the car. They also wrote that the rear window was slightly deeper to improve rear view. But, just now comparing it with same angle pics of my Mk5, I think that the mag's info might be all bollox!! It looks exactly the same! [Memo to self: Don't be so trusting of what motor journo's write!]
Snoopy
looking at it again you maybe right im not sure or not it may just be angles though. I don't know what 'extra's' they changed on the redesign when it went back to the drawingboard late last year. I guess i will have to get someone to measure them in Paris in 5weeks time lol. RedRobin
....I guess that in keeping the main body shell but changing the doors, including rear hatch door, they could have changed the window depths. I'm just guessing mind you.

RedRobin
Its so different to the MKV....The new GTI has just got to be something special in the looks dept we hope. ....Do you think that the MK6 looks really different to the Mk5 (comparing standard base Golf model apples with apples)? I've read (bl00dy motoring journo's again!) that the Mk6 was purposely designed to be "familiar" to Mk5 owners to help keep Golf 'loyalty'. I couldn't agree more that the Mk6 GTI needs to look something special. But part of me doesn't want it to in case I lust after one!
Tarmac_Terrorist
The MKVI also reminds me of the MKIV from some angles. If the price does go up £1500 it will make the S3 look like much better value with more neddies and quattro. Also, bear in mind that big discounts can be had on the S3! Muppetboy
From the side and rear it looks like a flaming people carrier!!! I won't be getting one anyway so I guess it makes no difference to me
RedRobin
....Good find, Geoff Doesn't bode too well for how the Mk6 GTI will look though. VW have somehow managed to make the side and rear styling look very dull and the front is just a facelift that, like human facelifts, doesn't quite look right with the rest! Thumbsdown from me so far.
Snoopy
The back lights to me look worse in the current photos i did not think that could happen lol. I know what you meen about the styling to some degree, but i find the crease more exciting than the bland mk5s side, especially in bland bubble 3 door form. I think the mk6s restyle will be very colour sensitive due to the angles. The reVo270 concept car had similar sides with no rubbing strips and in the blue seemed ok but that was an estate at the end of the day lol so not a great comparison. I was next to a EOS in traffic today looked very similar from the side with the crease and door not having the bump strip. Sad to say but i think so far im more tempted by the new ibiza cupra SEATCupra.net - Your #1 source for SEAT information - The Ibiza range grows with addition of the CUPRA and ECOMOTIVE Afterall power is not everything. Then again lol. But can i really stray from a golf again lol ,dam i think i must have been driving the SEAT FAR to much of late lol.
