MiguelMcTyson
I'm pretty much decided that a regular GTi 1/2 years old, 5 door manual in black is what i want, hopefully save some pennies and then get a Nav Retro-fit done, Typical newbie questions but any spec items are a must and does anyone "proper" supply and fit Nav & Bluetooth, the latest unit? billy2shots
I would say 18ins Monza alloys, and highline computer should be top of the list. Then its down to personal taste. I always think centre arm rest looks nice. Xenons are good but may push the price up. People are torn over leather but again i like it, others like the old school look with the cloth. JonC
The auto-dip mirror on the nearside is extremely useful and one can get very used to it. The centre arm rest is great if you're opting for the superb DSG. Leather looks and feels luxurious. Satnav/cd unit also looks superb with it's 6" screen. I-pod under the armrest is great, too. Cruise is useful on very long nightime runs. All subjective I guess, but for must haves, I would say Monza 18's and leather. Good luck in what ever you choose and enjoy! MiguelMcTyson
Thanks Guys, I've been offered a year old 5 door manual with leather and 18's for 15K with 9000 miles on it, I can't decide if i'd be better to go for an older car and save some money which I could use for a few basic cosmetic mods and a remap, also presumably remaps are going to invalidate manufacturers warranty? JonC
edit... also presumably remaps are going to invalidate manufacturers warranty? Dealer attitude towards remapping and modding generally varys from dealer to dealer. A dealer is more likely to try and invalidate a warranty claim by claiming that the remap or mod has directly caused the problem for which the car is claiming the warranty. Clearly, some warrany works would never be linked to an ecu remap. From a legal point of view, if a dealer refused to carry out warranty work de to your car being remapped, then I would ask them to put that in writing, as they would have a very difficult time trying to defend their action. Some folk, like RR, have a very good relationship with their dealers and have offered full details of their mods upfront. You could be lucky. but there again, some dealers could have a very frosty attitude to modding. Didn't put me off, as it hasn't many, and I have further mods planned including Revo stage 2... Funny enough my local dealer offered a remap on a Gti if I thought it was under powered, although I guess a salesman and the warranty guy could have very different attitudes
