wyliss
Does anybody know anymore about this?, not too keen on transferring to O2 really...... Thanks
CarMad
Wishful thinking ....? It appears that O2 haven't met the very strict numbers in the contract with Apple so as a result Apple can either dump them or have another provider sell the phones as well. Will they invoke the clause, thats anyones guess. Personally I think I'm going to get an HTD Touch HD, beats the iPhone just about everywhere. If the user interface is anything like the Touch Diamond (which it is) then I would stay as far away from it as possible, else you'll be :ffs: like me
CarMad
Doh is it not good then.... ? Specs are fantastic for it. I wonder if it will be available with Android instead???? :D
bazza_g
Doh is it not good then.... ? try before you buy is all I can say, the TouchFlo user interface running on windoze mobile is woeful... For the iPhone question - the rumours are that Apple may use their very favorably worded contract to either replace O2 or add a second UK network operator before Christmas. So if you can, I'd hold on until then - the worst that will happen is that you'll get a good xmas deal
CarMad
try before you buy is all I can say, the TouchFlo user interface running on windoze mobile is woeful... Oh, I watched the Touch HD video the other day and the interface didn't seem to bad, is it just not integrated well or is it all down to windows mobile? An 800x480 screen is quite attractive and the battery life 'looks' pretty good as well. Maybe I will just end up getting a bloody iPhone... bazza_g
The Touch Diamond the battery life is beyond a joke and, udging by the fact that HTC have already released a high capacity replacement battery (that needs a new rear case), HTC seem to agree too! After some serious complaining to Orange I managed to get a credit to my account to cover the replacement battery cost - top marks to Orange, HTC were next to useless The TouchFlo is sluggish and unresponsive - its really a 'wannabe' iPhone. If you fancy a touch screen go iPhone. Me, I'm trying to work out how to remove the TouchFlo software to try and get some usability back! /rant over
CarMad
It seems ok on this but is that because its got a different processor?!?!? Aiw5PsQ50Uc Edited September 27, 2008 by CarMad
Dave
I spoke to the guy who owns the orange shop across the road from me ( some weeks ago) and he seemed of the opinion that orange weren't prepared to pay the sorts of money that Apple wanted. CarMad
I can understand that... 02 are paying a fortune for the privilege, but the more they have out there the more music they sell and apps, will have to see what happens. Its actually gone on sale in Hong Kong sim free direct from Apple for less than the PAYGO price 02 charge.
shark_90
Hmm interesting. O2's iPhone email support is backed off to us so I wonder how that could affect that!

Think it's the one I'll be going for when it comes out (price dependant). Reviews and spec looks good.
Jez
There is also a Blackberry touchscreen coming in the next couple of months, it's called 'Thunder' or 9530. hopefully the OS will be solid and battery life good.
CarMad
Have you thought about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA? Think it's the one I'll be going for when it comes out (price dependant). Reviews and spec looks good. Its certainly on the list. I saw today that Nokia might be announcing their first full touch screen phone. They are late to the market but have done that before and ended up taking the lead. My contract is up November / December so fingers crossed all the sexy new phones are at least announced then and I will decided what I'm going for. Its any of 4 or 5 at the moment, top of the list would be the HTC Touch HD it it could come with Andriod, wishful thinking though.

poobarr
Really .. as it not out anywhere as yet or announced on any network. Mate how many people have to tell you it sh1t for you to believe it?! Just to cement the cause I have the HTC TyTN 11 and its utter w4nk. Really clumsy to use ALL the ordinary phone functions and to make matters worse its gone wrong after 8 months. I am counting the days down to get a new handset; iphone has the hype but also everyone i know with one rates it.
CarMad
Following the crowd is boring. Plus things do evolve and at times very quickly and what I want it for and what I do with it might be very different to yourself. I've not made an decision as to what I'm going to buy so until that point my views and options will be very much open, but thanks for your feedback on using one of the old models. tom_hargreaves
Do you mean HTC Touch Diamond? The HTC TouchHD isn't out yet Sorry my bad, yes it is the Touch Diamond. Can't see how the new one will be leaps and bounds ahead though. It can't possibly be better because the user interface is disgraceful and the touchscreen is still the stylus type version. Which on most are horrible to use. Is it a work phone you need CarMad? If so then get the new Blackberry Bold when it's released. Think the father will send the Touch Diamond back for this instead. CarMad
Its a personal phone, I use a blackberry for work. This will be more of a surfing / play phone for everything else. I played with a Touch Diamond today some has got one at work, it truly is a horror, but from what I've seen of the interface for the Touch HD its radically different and far faster. But then I went to the Apple store today and played with an iPhone and it was very nice as well, contract is up next month I think so will see how things evolve until then. Rumour are that Nokia will be launching its first full touch screen phone tomorrow but I've yet to see anything to firm that up, maybe that will be the killer phone?!?!? tom_hargreaves
If you're after a play phone I wouldn't touch anything over an iPhone. How about this iPhone exclusive application, will this convince you? I'll start a thread with this in also: It's called Rev, and with a forthcoming hardware add on, will read from your cars ECU and allow you to view various parameters, error codes etc. Rev OBD Metrics (Requires OBD-II/WLAN interface hardware) * Vehicle Speed * RPM * Fuel Consumption * Engine Coolant Temp * Fuel Pressure * Calculated Engine Load * Throttle Position * Intake Manifold Pressure * Air Intake Temp * Timing Advance * Mass Air Flow * Fuel Level * Barometric Pressure * EVAP System Vapor Pressure * Fuel Trim Could be very very good when it's released. Chav
avoid the htc like others said. its even more annoying than symbian interface. i've recently stopped doing stuff for such phones - no market. they're dying.
CarMad
Ok ok so HTC OS is crap I get it. But Nokia has just dipped its toe in the water with this, 3.2" screen (details below), 3.2 Meg camera, touch screen, SD slot memory with 8mb in the box, video 640x480 30 fps, 3.5g and 400h battery life from 1320 mAh Li-Ion battery and 35 hr music playback. The software might not be as slick but it doesn't look too bad for what they are saying is a midrange phone. New Nokia Tube / 5800 Main display - Size: 3.2" - Resolution: 640 x 360 pixels (nHD) - Up to 16 million colours - aspect ratio 16:9 - automatic orientation sensor (Accelerometer) for display rotatio Edited October 2, 2008 by CarMad
