I'm sorry, but that just is NOT correct. The Edition 30 engine (and the Leon Cupra) is exactly the same as the standard 200PS GTI engine, but with the larger K04 turbo, and a couple of other ancillary hardware differences.

The S3 engine is unique, and is NOT shared with anything else - the S3 has a completely unique cylinder block (aka crankcase), which is made from a much stronger cast iron. The S3 engine also has a much stronger strengthened bedplate for the crankshaft and balancer shafts. It is for this reason why the S3 engine can be reliably cranked upto around 450PS. Try that on an Ed30 or Cupra engine, and it will end in tears.

But you are correct that an Ed30 can be tuned to around 330PS - as can the standard GTI engine with the larger K04 turbo.

I thought so, check out the first paragraph;

I'm thinking of a stage 1 Revo remap for my Mk5 Gti . Are all Revo dealers equal? My local dealer seems to concentrate on Evos and Scoobys.Will he be able to Revo a GTi? Is the software the same where ever its done?

All Revo dealers should provide the same high standard service and I'm sure they do, as I'm sure Revo Technik will "vet" their suppliers to standards that they see important to their business strategy and ethics. One would hope so anyway!

As Mook says, find a Revo dealer who specialises in VW and you'll be alright. I believe the software is the same code for each stage, but it it will vary to some extent depending on what other hardware you're running, such as a performance exhaust, air intake etc. The software that's loaded to your ECU is adaptive to your driving style and other modifications your presently running. That said, it will work wonders on its own. Revo software, IMO, is utterly superb and worth every penny. Very addictive mind you; once you start, you'll want more - there's stage 2 and 3 software.......:grin: Enjoy. +++

Yeh, its an addiction i've caught recently -not helped by my 19 yr old son who keeps egging me on !So far just upgraded to Koni FSDs & Eibachs-what a difference! Next step is a remap .

If you can point me in the direction of a (local) VW Revo dealer I will be grateful

I just got FSDs and Eibach springs this week along with Eibach arbs. You are right doc it makes such a difference. She turns in really well and is flat as a witches tit through the bends. Love it! Next for me I think is some new brakes.:crackpipe:

Thanks , went to 'the racing line' today in Halifax , just 5 minutes up the road from me.(Very)Young lad I spoke to said they have remapped GTi's & Seats -no problems . Use standard Revo remap software.

What do you think about anti-theft and the switching between programs option -Anybody had experience of these?

edit... What do you think about anti-theft and the switching between programs option -Anybody had experience of these?

The anti-theft feature is clearly useful, but for me I'm not sure if I'd want to switch back to stock from remapped. Not only is the power difference night and day, but I'm not sure in what situation one would want to switch to stock. For instance, one could switch to stock prior to a service at the dealer in order to hide the remap, (admittedly, some dealers are fine with remapped cars and don't get their knickers in a twist beacuse a car is modified) but in reality a dealer could still wipe the remap, as it remains loaded in the ECU. These switches don't completely revert from stock to remap and back again.

The SPS Plus allows the user to set the car up to run efficiently with any varying RON fuel as far as I'm aware using variable boost, timing and fuel adjustment. For example, one can switch from track set up using BP 102RON fuel (if you can get it - there's only one BP garage in Scotland with it) to normal road use fuel such as V-Power. That's as far as I understand it anyway. +++

I got the sps 1 switch cause it was on special offer. Have never used the anti theft option and prob never will. The only situation I would use the switch to change the ECU to stock would be for driving in the snow. It's hard enough to drive a standard GTI in th snow never mind one with an other 40 - 50 horses and a more sensitive throttle.

....What makes VAGtech Limited's info so reliable? - They're just a tuning company. And anyway, their wording refers to the K04 turbo and there's no mention of S3 engine internals.

I think Teutonic_Tamer's info is correct.

So the fact that they work on these engines all the time, justifies they might know what they're talking about!!

I quote;

'In standard trim the 2.0 TFSI produces 200 bhp, it's big brother with a larger K04 turbocharger and upgraded internals producing 260 bhp. The later of the two can be found in the edition 30 GTI, Seat leon cupra and Audi S3'

No you're right they don't mention it!

I have looked evrywhere and just can't find anything that says anything else, if you can please let me know.

If I'm wrong I will of course apologise.

VWvortex Forums: GTi Edition 30 review

If you look here the subject has also been discussed, and someone, who has access to ETKA, has found the part numbers for the Ed30 block, turbo and intercooler and the same for the S3.

Turbo:

195 KW BHZ (S3) 06F 145 702 C KKK

169 KW BYD (Jubi) 06F 145 702 C KKK

Block and internals:

Rumpfmotor BHZ (S3) 06F 100 035

Rumpfmotor BYD (Jubi ) 06F 100 035

but different intercoolers - I'd suggest that the Edition 30 is a smaller capacity intercooler:

Ladeluftkuehler S3 1K0 145 803 P

Ladeluftkuehler Golf 1K0 145 803 A

Would perhaps switch to 'stock' for the wife's occasional use??

Robin, it's not I'm afraid. The Ed30 uses the same engine as the S3. Fact +++
