Andrew
Well, last Saturday I had AMD in Woking put the 5 hr trial on my LCR. Very impressive stuff. The car is sedate below 3000 (which is honestly where I spend most of my time!) which is what I really wanted. Above 3000 and the difference is quite incredible. Foot down and before you know it you are doing 20 mph more than you would have been with the normal settings. Overtaking is really where the action is though. I'm told the final map is about 20% better still as the trial is slightly watered down. I'm tempted, but the car has done 65k and my only worry is that it is too old to start doing stuff like this. On the other hand, it gives the car a new character and as such I'll be more inclined to keep it for another 3 or 4 years. I would not have thought I'd get more than £4.5k for it if I sold it anyway so it is worth more to me than that. Thoughts? I'm sure I've asked this before and was reassured too by AMD - but they would do that! Maybe if it is done I should get it serviced there too. Mook
I've run remapped 1.8Ts well past 180,000 miles before, so I really wouldn't worry about it. At 65k, the engine is only just properly bedded in. The Revo map is set up so as not to put too much strain on the engine, as with most maps from them, and people like APS and Superchips. In the words of Nike - just do it
Andrew
If you read some generic car reports at 5 years old and 65k I've probably lost 25% of my initial 210 bhp anyway!! Encouraging comments though, thanks Mook.
shark_90
Don't hesitate, just get it done. I've had every car I've had since I've been on here remapped, it makes the car as it should have been out of the factory IMO and lots of other people's opinion too
JonC
I concour with the others - worth every penny. I'll always have my cars remapped from now on. Do it.
Cuprabob
I sold my LCR with 80k on the clock in 2006 and the 1st thing the new owner done was to get a Revo map and Forge DV and as far as I know it's still going strong. Go for it+++
Cupramax
The Revo LCR code was actually developed on my old beasty. I had one of the first UK LCR's in August 2002. Ran perfectly for 3 years with no issues, dont even hesitate, just do it.
Andrew
I'm being a bit of a pansy about it aren't I?! It ended today and I miss it already. Have to see what price they come back with for a Forge DV, REVO and a Milltek system (since the exhaust needs doing as a bracket is broken and for another £100 over standard why not!?) as long as the exhaust isn't some chavvy booming thing! shark_90
Exhaust will be great if you go with Milltek. Not too loud, just right.
Mook
Andrew - I've got a brand new (still boxed) Forge DV you can have for a reasonable price - drop me a PM if you're interested. It was going on my track toy until I decided to go down the HKS route.
JonC
edit... Have to see what price they come back with for a Forge DV, REVO and a Milltek system Approx £500 for the Revo, same for the Catback Milltek and approx £150 for the Forge DV. With fitting on top, you should be all in for £1500. edit... as long as the exhaust isn't some chavvy booming thing! Not in Milltek's vocabulary, only great sounds from these pipes. Andrew
Thanks for the offer Mook. I've had some pretty good pricing from AMD a lot more inline with Max's comments above. I'll PM you later. Now I need to find a YouTube clip of this exhaust to make sure about this noise ...
JonC
How much £97.21 from Forge... I was thinking more of the Replacement Vacuum Valve for the 2.0 VAG engines which is £150 all in.
Cupramax
Ah, makes sense, except that engine isn't in an LCR...
JonC
Oh yeah, you're right. My mistake.
Andrew
Mine goes in for its new lease of life in a few weeks. REVO, Forge DV and a cat back Miltek. I'm hoping the noise isn't going to mark me out as a chav with a lairy exhaust. The exhaust needs replacing anyway so I'm taking a punt on Miltek over VAG. (and edited to say: 6 year old LCR with 67k on the clock - is it likely to have lost many of the opriginal 210 bhp if it has not been thrashed and regularly serrviced?? Some reports you read of old cars with 25% less power than when new)
Mook
With 60k miles on it, it's just properly run in. The drop in power is possibly (ahem, allegedly) due to the over-optimistic bhp figures to start with...
Andrew
I've never had it on a RR so I've no idea if it has dropped any or not. Reading back through this thread I've realised I do repeat myself alot. I said, reading back through this thread I've realised I do repeat myself alot ... Cupramax
Mine made pretty spot on stock BHP and slightly more torque when I RR'd it at 20k miles. Revo on mine made 272hp and 289lb/ft. Thats on a 210 AMK engine.
