parmblagan
hi guys i think this topic has been covered before but still doesnt really answer the questions. a brime to brime test report that i get about 21.4mpg around town. this means only get about 300 miles on the full tank, the car very rarely goes on the motorway. i use the car to go to work and get back home which is 6 mile round trip through town. i have had the car for for about 7 minths now and thats mpg has always been the same. are the above figures ok good, or should i get more mpg? been reading other posts on this forum and other forums and members are reporting back much higher figures. about 30mpg average yes i have checked the idrive for the uk mpg and my tyres are at the correct pressure. my driving style is none agressive, boring you could say i am really tempted to book her in at the dealers but they will probally take my money and tell they didnt find anything wrong! can you expert tell me if there is anything i can change or modify to get more mpg. already tried cleaning the MAF but didnt change anything. DaveP
535d used around town over the last few weeks (in the bitter cold) averaged 22mpg. so yours sounds fine. (did a short run of ~30miles and it went to ~30-35mpg)
dgl
Mine's a 2005 525D manual and since I've had the car (1 month), I've averaged 35.7 MPG with a mix of motroway and short trips. I know autos are a bit more thirsty, but I would have thought 21MPG is not right. I think I'd be tempted to contact an independant BMW specialist and see what they say - BMW will just charge you a fortune for nothing.
Booster
a mix of motroway and short trips. That's why you are getting the mpg you are. The OP is doing only round town driving.

gizze
The older 2.5 litre engine with the older auto box was/is noturious for drinking round town. You then have the fact a diesel takes around 8 miles or 15 minutes to get to temperature, at which point you can be using up to 40% more fuel. So, reading your post, 6 mile trip, from cold and in town and you are going to get proper fecked consumption wise. :D You can check to make sure your OBC is set to UK, if it is set to US then you will be getting a reading that is around 3mpg under. A friend of mine went from his E39 530i auto to an E60 525d auto and he said his round town consumption was actually worse, but when he got on teh motorway he got about 38mpg compared with 35mpg from the petrol.
