Sponge
I have a problem that's getting worse. Whenever I turn left or right, with full (or nearly full) lock, my front wheels slip, as if the road is icy. It happens when the road is dry or wet, icy or not. I notice it the most when turning right. It's as if the right wheel hits an icy patch and you can feel the corner slip. It's most disconcerting. Normal driving, straight ahead, or turning such as changing lanes, whatever speed, is fine. No instability, wheel wobble, etc. It's just slow, nearly/full lock manoeuvres. Any ideas? I think that those of us with the wide low profile tyres, i.e. like the S-Lines all experience quite noticeable tyre-scrub at low speed near/full lock. I'd agree that it feels like something isn't right - I have whinged and my local Audi dealer (Listers, Stratford) who have done the 'they all do that sir bit'. It seems more noticeable now the tyres are half-worn though.
STEVIED553
I get exactly the same thing with my 04 A4 Cab, and my tyre tread is just peachy... must be the design. ?
sween
what they said /\ but its because the radius of turn for the two front wheels is different, especially so on a big lock and the steering geometry can't adjust each wheel to the required radius so one of the tyres scrubs. shark_90
My FWD A4 used to do this. Don't think the quattro did it.
Chick
my cab does this too ...... notice it much more when tyres nearing the end of their life, always thought it was because they are low profiles (?)
Tame Technician
I get about 3 or 4 people complain about that every week. I hate saying this as an Audi centre technician, but "They all do that sir, its normal."
Sponge
I feel a little better now. In over three years of ownership I've never really noticed it and it appears to be getting worse. Which prompted this post. I bought new tyres a few months back and wondered if it was them. It didn't do it straight away, but as the tyres wear it's becoming more prevalent. Oh well. I'll let the wife know. She was getting worried and fearing mega-bills as the car is now out of warranty.
