Wizbit
I am considering buying the latest 2009 sat nav DVD (i currently have the 2006 DVD). Apart from the obvious benefit of having the latest roads and map information, are there any other upgrades or new features that the 2009 disc brings? I'm wasn't sure whether the DVD just contains map data, or whether it also has new firmware for the navigation system?
craigyb
Each disk has an update to the Nav unit only and new maps.
Wizbit
Any idea of what new features (if any) you get? Or is it just general bug fixes / improvements?

sjmmarsh
Any idea on the cost of the DVD? I have a 2006 unit as well and there have been quite a few A1 changes since then that drive the Sat Nav loopy as I drive through them Steve
craigyb
Although I don't recommend it, I got my 2009 disk from a torrent. I have seen disk copies fail on a regular basis in MMI systems, so I would always say get a genuine disk. Audi sell the disks for around £230, you can find them on Ebay cheaper at your own risk. The cheapest I can buy them for is 160 euros which is about £160 now.
Wizbit
Yeah i ended up downloading mine as well in the end. Works just fine at the moment, but i have kept the iso image ready to burn another disc if needed.
Polymorph
Hi, Can you tell me where you got the torrent from for the maps. I fancy updating but dont fancy paying the crazy prices audi are charging. Thanks

JulianHicks
Interestingly, I've just bought a 2009 DVD from my dealer because he [or Audi] have reduced the price to £149. I was on a 2006 DVD too and fancied getting it updated with more recent maps, having got lost recently due to different layout of the town I was visiting. Lo and behold, my TMC now appears to work for the first time. I'm still on MMI version 0890 and TMC has never worked before with either the original 2004 DVD or the 2006 DVD I'd replaced it with. I was told a 2xxx level of MMI fixed it but all I did was put a 2009 DVD in the boot drive. Can't guarantee it works 'properly' but I never used to get any Info data or TMC radio stations selectable in the setup and now I do, and I get Navigation maps updated in realtime with visuals to show roads with problems. How did that work then?
gninnam
I got the latest updates and 2009 disks - if anyone wants to 'borrow' my backup then please let me know etc...... (if this ain't allowed mods, then please remove)

Limoncello
I have just bought the 2010 disc for my A8, when i installed it said updating, but didnt look like a firmware update. the maps are updated (i think) and the TMC now works, but I expected the 2d/3d option to also be available, is this a different mmi upgrade i need? Wizbit
I'm pretty sure that you need a minimum version of the MMI software before you can enable 3D map mode. I'm sure Craigyb will know what this is, but when I upgraded to 5570 it became an option in the Sat Nav settings.
Limoncello
Thanks for the quick response, i need a bletooth phone fitting anyway so i may give him a call
PsYcHe
I think it's something like 3130 you need for the 3D in the MMI. Craig can help out. He'll probably need to upgrade when he fits the BT kit anyway to make it work properly.
