JonC
Just done a search under MKV golf GTI and couldn't find anything, but I'm 95% sure I've seen them there before. I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I see one.
stooH
What age is your car? I've got mine in for service on thursday it's 27 months old so still under warranty and have got the white worm on the wheel caps. Hoping it's covered under warranty... mikemod
Yep, I had all the wheel caps and the boot lid handle replaced under warranty
bodger00
My car is MY06 on a 55 plate but is sadly no longer under warranty (expired sep08). I too had the wheel centre caps replaced due to white worm but the boot hatch handle was ok at the time. There must be a company selling an aftermarket copy somewhere..... Tarmac_Terrorist
I thinks it's a sorry state of affairs when an upmarket manufacturer cannot even create their emblem without it corroding. VW doesn't seem to be able to get round this simple issue (worse still, I don't think they are at all bothered as this has been a long standing issue). BMW are no better though - wheel centre badges on my 3 series are worming too
Snoopy
There is two different types one suffers this problem. That will teach VW to copy a SEAT design and try and improve it lol. The SEAT ones are not a problem.
bodger00
Hi snoopy yeah mine is the top image that you posted. To be honest it looks just like a sticker. I would love to replace it with the bottom image type. But where can I get them from other than the dealer who wants 90 quid for it? Anyone? petsy
Keep an eye on ebay as one or two complete boot handles occassionally pop up for sale.
JonC
Hi Bodger, if you're still looking for one, I found this on fleabay: VW Golf MK5 GTI GT TDI - Boot Lock Handle Hinge Badge on eBay, also, Volkswagen, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-Jun-09 21:34:04 BST)
bodger00
Hi Jon, Thanks for finding this mate. Unfortunately this one has suffered the same fate as mine (whiteworm!). It seems the original ones (the non 3D ones) all suffer from this. Mine is now a mess. I think I have accepted that I'm going to have to buy a new one. Doh! JonC
Oh bugger, what a shame; I must admit, I didn't read the blurb. If I find another soon, I'll let you know
