Elephant or Admiral?

I know they are effectively the same company but have read lots of negative reviews for about Elephant and also some [not as many] about Admiral.

Only £20 in it [£649 Elephant vs £668 Admiral].

I am inclined towards Admiral but opinions are gratefully received.

Had a Bell policy when i had my 350Z [same co too] and they were ok, cheaper than the other 2 too.

Then again, i didn't have to claim. Did change my plate number over and they didn't charge for that [as am sure some companys would with an admin excuse!]

I just don't get it. My A4 [with 7 yrs no claims!]

Even without the missus [as I said in other thread 3 recent accidents on another policy] it comes to £700 for me

£700 for me in an X3 too... painful, especially for a car like that! In an M3 you expect a premium not in a feckin diesel family wagon.

Waylander, if any of those claims are pending, they will consider them fault claims until they are settled. Then if they go your way you will get all the extra money back. So get a quote with them on as 'pending' and then another quote with them on as 'non fault'. Then you know what you should be paying.

They refund you retrospectively too, back to the date the policy started.

Out of interest, have you tried Privilege. They're all as bad as each other, so you may as well go with the cheapest! Privilege cam in less than Elephant and Admiral for me.

My mrs is with Elephant, and they aren't very good, they seem to get the paperwork wrong with alarming consistency, and customer service is definately lacking the service bit.

Can't comment on Admiral personally.

Elephant did the same thing with me too - it took them 4 attempts to get a correct renewal notice to me.

The claims processing team were appauling too, they couldn't grasp simple concepts and generally annoyed me.

It doesn't make a jot of difference - between Elephant and Admiral. I work in the personal lines insurance industry - those two are EXACTLY the same company. Elephant used to be a mor "online" based insurer but now there is no difference between them, apart from the only comparison site on which Elephant appears is "Confused" because it is again owned by Admiral......

Just renewed for my 2nd year with Admiral, called them to say I had a cheaper quote and they matched it. Had good service from them regarding an airport parking company loosing my keys, so haven't been able to fault them myself, touching lots of wood as I speak +++

two things that make the biggest difference to policies are claims and the car in question.

For exactly the same profile - i.e. me I was paying £940 on an S2000 and then £210 on my next car two weeks later a Mini One...... these were the cheapest quotes and both with Admiral - Quite a difference!!

I've got a policy with Elephant, and have found their customer service (based in Cardiff IIRC) to be pretty good, as long as you're firm with them. +++

I moved from More Than who were utterly fecking useless and manned by illiterate morons in India who were incapable of stringing a sentance together without a flow-chart. Lousy company. :smashfreak:

Admiral just rang me to follow-up on the [higher] go-compare quote; I pointed they gave me a cheaper one on confused; went through all the details and asked about mods [including internal mods such as my electronic lumbar support; light packs etc] and managed to increase the price of the quote then made a big play of using a "today only" discount to bring it £5 less than the original one!

First I have come across non-performance [internal] upgrades affecting the premium!

No problems with Elephant. I went with Admiral this year. Did my policy online, paid for it, thought everything was sorted - got a note 3 weeks later saying they were adding modifications and charging me an extra £100. They said I had done two quotes and one didn't include mods. Both actually did and one was done through a price comparison website, so I took the cheaper one. And the policy number was totally different when I got my pack in. It is a total joke.

One month later and I'm still awaiting a call back, apparently their complaints department were dealing with it. All I get is foreign folk on the phone who don't seem to understand what I'm saying. Never had so much hassle. I'd stay away

Tell me about it, I added rear sensors to my quote and it went up by £40... go figure.

Aren't they on the car to prevent me from hitting things!

In the end I deleted the option as I think it was standard anyway.

Everything affects it mate...

Address / Car / Claims / Convictions / NCB... the list goes on. Anything they can do to squeeze money out of you, they will. I wouldn't be surprised if colour, driver weight and hair colour is added to that list next year.

"Sorry Sir, your premium has risen by £560 because we don't usually insure fat gingers in bronze Porsches"

...that doesn't mean me by the way LOL!!!!

Right, stand back - Admiral pissed me off in the extreme yesterday.

Got a quote from them via confused.com on the M3 - £911 w/600 excess which I was very happy with. Answered everything online entirely truthfully but thought I'd call in to buy the policy for my own peace of mind.

Dealt with a welsh chap called Steve. We didn't get on, that much was clear. But that was because, in my opinion, he is a ****.

Anyway, he insisted we ran through everything again and he made me change 3 things and suddenly my premium shot up to £1,110! A 21% increase!

1. I'd added my dad as a named driver as I thought he'd enjoy driving the M3 on the odd couple of days a year he's in the UK. Was told as he's no longer a UK-resident, he couldn't be a named driver. Fair enough then.

2. Exact use: the exact wording of the question on confused.com was "What will the vehicle mainly be used for?". Now, I tube into work and simply won't drive as aside from the fact it takes much longer to get into c.london, parking costs £35 for 8 hours. However, over the last couple of years there's been literally 2 or 3 days when I've woken up early and thought "sod it, I'll drive in". He went over this question, i explained honestly just as above that I have a season ticket etc but he was adamant that I'd have to add commuting to my policy. I said that was ridiculous, he insisted it had to be that way.

3. Him: "Any modifications?"

Me: "No, its completely standard apart from factory-fitted options just as you'd expect"

Him: "Oh well we'll have to list these"

Me: Fine, but they're not 'modifications'.

So, being 100% honest I went through everything declared as an option. Apologies for the long post but its for context:

- 19" M Double-spoke alloy wheel

- Adaptive Headlights

- Aluminium Shadow interior trim

- Bluetooth phone prep + telematics

- BMW ConnectedDrive-Assist

- BMW ConnectedDrive-Online

- CD changer

- DAB digital radio

- Elec Fold Exterior Mirrors

- Electronic Damper Control (EDC)

- High-beam Assistant

- Loudspeaker system - BMW Business

- Park Distance Control (PDC). front and r

- Seat heating. front

- USB interface

- Voice Control

So he updated the quote, it came out 21% more and I said "what the feck???"

He then went to great (and arrogant) depths to tell me that although they were factory options, my car was very highly specified and they made my car more desirable to thieves and so the premium should rightly go up! I pointed out that the value of the car is a ratable factor and that the options are reflected in the value...

I told him that with the exception of the wheels, 99% of these were electronic upgrades which you cant SEE and still he insisted. So my voice control, usb connector, adaptive lights, bluetooth etc are upping my premium as theives can telepathically sense they're fitted. I'm sure car thieves value the ability dock their ipods and make hands-free calls when choosing what car to steal!?!?! Fecking IDIOTS.

I wouldn't have minded if he was reasonable and genuinely believed what he was saying but it was a conceited and pathetic, not to mention patronising, attempt to fleece me and make me feel stupid for even questioning these things. Will be calling back and asking to speak to a manager pronto.

Curiously, I did an online quote with More Than today and quote came back as £858 with only a £200 excess AND including Commuting and no questions about options!

Cockknockers! :ffs:

This is exactly what happened to me. Elephant insisted that all the factory options were indeed "modifications" and should the car be stolen, I would be covered solely for a standard spec GTI which I don't have. Needless to say, I'm with Adfrian Flux who cover the car as is, even with all true modifications.

I looked at Confused.com again and ticked the "yes" box for mods and a huge tick-box sprang up. There was a single listing for "interior modifications" so I ticked it and only Admiral/Elephant quotes changes. Admittedly only by £20 for me.

I don't know if I would be expected to list every single one though. Even when the Admiral Floosy rang me on Thurs and we argued about this she simply said "interior changes" as well so perhaps not. To be safe though [when she calls back tomorrow] I am going to have a list of them all

I really would consider someone else but the next cheapest quite will be my renewal which is £200 more! [will £100 Vol excess]
