AudiPartner
I have seen what seems like a good genuine car, 3 owners, sub 80k miles, full detailed history, all the keys and books etc. Its a 1999, 4.2 V8. Big and juicy, hence they are cheap, but does seem like an aweful lot of car for the money. What should I be paying for this vehicle, is it worth a bit more than average because of it low mileage and no. of owners etc? I suspect it makes it a good candidate at least. With this particular car, at just under 80k miles is there anything looming in terms of expensive repair bills etc? And is there anything obvious I need to look at when viewing the car? I have seen a slightly older, slightly higher miled, but only slightly more expensive S8 too which has just thrown a spanner in the works... SINGH
What price is it at? Sub 80k miles means that it will be coming close to its cambelt service if it hasn't already had one. You will be looking at around the £400 mark at a specialist and £1k at Audi for this, good haggling point? When you do get it done make sure its done properly from someone like Ben at AVP if you do go down the specialist route. The mileage 80K is low for a D2 A8, I sold my D2 A8 with 220K miles on it and it was still going strong. One piece of advice I would give is, if you do go for an A8 over the S, make sure its a sport model. It comes with nice Recaro seats, lower suspension and bigger fatter wheels. About the S8, the drive is in another league in terms of speed. It does feel a lot faster then the A8, but the compromise is in fuel efficiency. I could get 30 MPG from my old A8, and only 22 MPG from the S8! The main thing to look out for is the gearbox, some have failed and rebuilds are around £2,000. Check it goes through all gears smoothly. Has it got any extras? For example blinds/Bose/solar sunroof? Would you buy the 4.2 A8 then allways regret not buying the S8? The S8 does come standard with Xenons and Satnav on the facelift so thats a bonus. How much older is the S8 you have seen? If you put the link to the advert on here we could possibly help further P.S There is a lot of info on the D2 A8 including a buyers guide here audipages Home Edited July 21, 2009 by SINGH
AudiPartner
This is the A8 Auto Trader UK - AUDI A8 4.2 40V Quattro 4dr Auto Saloon However as far as I am aware the dealer is prepared to let it go for less, to clear the stock. Is it a sport? I don't doubt I'd prefer the S8, but this car is to keep long term and I will no doubt run it alongside other cars, which will be high performance sports cars etc. Like my 996 Turbo for instance. My "toys" will change, but at the moment I'm looking for a "keeper".
SINGH
Its hard to tell as someone has put some D2 S8 alloys on it, but it does seem to be sitting a little high for the sport model. It has the TV/Sat Nav which is good. I personally would pay a little more for lower miler, not that its a problem on these cars, its just I would hope that the seats etc... would be a lot less worn. Its hard to see what options it has as it has no interior pics, but if you get the reg no and call the Audi A8 team on 08081014888 they will tell you/send you the spec/service info for free . sloss
Hmm, I was offered £4,750 Trade in quite recently for my '02 A8 4.2 Quattro from a Dealer in Aberdeen against an inflated price on a 4.2TDi. I laughed and left.......
SINGH
Another point to bare in mind is that with :: Welcome to A8Parts.co.uk - We only do Audi A8 Parts & Cars! :: running an A8 is cheap compared to another luxury car, as when something does go wrong its easy to get cheap genuine parts the next day. No, im not on the payroll :D Edited July 21, 2009 by SINGH

I picked up a bargain four months ago when I brought my 2001 S8, got it for £4.5k with a FASH, it had also had £3ishk spent at Audi two weeks before I collected it having the cambelt/waterpump/oil cooler/thermostat and other things done, was in absolute mint condition and drives perfect. Can I get one for that price now? No!
