So just like the mk4 & 5 then ;) a golf with a different front bumper  /runs for cover :bike:
|Yes but atleast the original was born out of passion by VW workers.... and had unique parts.

Anyways I think it`ll sell well and will meet the needs of people who want it.... :)

For me that V6 burble is unbeatable no matter how much quicker or fast the new one might be.

Because of the four-wheel-drive hardware, the Golf R weighs in around 80kg heavier than the GTI, though 35kg lighter than the R32.

Only 35kg less than the R32?!! It's still no track day car then...

I doubt you'll see 33mpg either.

I prefer the way it looks to my mk5 R32, but I can't see me trading my 6 pot in for a turbo 4 and having to pay at least an extra £15k on top for the privilege.

If you've got one of the last R32's, enjoy it, cherish it and think hard before selling it, because there will never be another car like it.

My thoughts too, cherish and look after the V6 babies....... doubt we`ll ever see a Uber R32 like it.

I think now with the 2.0T 4 pot, the R will be considered by more people.

The 3.2 did put people off with mpg scares. Whilst there is no getting away from the fact the 3.2 sounded great, times have moved on and I think the 3.2 is comparatively lazy BHP wise compared with the newer turbo'd smaller efficient engines. I know of 2 people who wouldn't have considered the r32 but now will look closer at the R.

If modifying wasn't an option, and I had the choice between a mk5 r32 and the new Golf R, I would choose the R32 all day long.

It's a lovely looking car and has character (as much as a Golf can) due to the engine.

If I were to be heavily modifying I think it'd have to be the R due to the possible gains, even then I think I'd prefer a mk5 GTi edition 30.

I wouldn't mind one as a daily car... :)

For me it reminds me what Audi did with the S3 model.

The original had wide flared arches and unique bits, the new S3 is a upgraded version of the A3, no wide arches etc... more subtle BUT not worse.

VW are heading the same way..... less unique hardware so it can be used more widely across the VW range... for some people this is what made the originals more appealing and made you feel you were driving something different and special.

This doesn't make the newer cars bad, in fact the plus points as for new customers they will love them to bits....... for the older hardcore ones like myself... the originals will always hold a special place for me........ hence why I feel the way I do.

I think everybody is a winner though, VW will sell more cars, the older cars will retain their appeal as they wont really have a replacement model etc.

I wouldnt say the new Golf R replaces the older V6 models, its a evolution in a new eco-friendly direction.

I will ofcourse respect people for dishing out the kudo`s for the new R Golf`s.... along as they give way to me on the roads as a sign of respect for the original

Remember we have the unveiling of the Audi RS3 too to come but somehow I doubt it will be a high profile car like the Audi RS4 was.

Got a feeling Audi are dishing out more RS models and in someway diluting the brand... the TT-RS didnt really go down too well as a drivers car did it...........

I think I might take a test drive in the R Golf in the future.... having driven the Audi S3 I wasnt too impressed.

And as for the RS3 well if its going to cost £35k then I guess its a big no no, its only a hatchback and £35k is way too much. Maybe when I have more cash.

I've come close to selling my R32, for a second hand GT 170 brake diesel of all motors. When the stealers said i would have to pay 500 for the swap, and that the GT was a rare car... i almost fell off my seat. One stealer didnt even realise the R32 would never be replaced by another 3.2/3.6... informed as usual...

My R32 will stay with me, and i'll cherish it as a future classic and something that makes me smile through every tunnel. As for Turbo's, well, im not paying 15k more for the priveledge. I've got a mk2 8v gti stripped out and caged with a 290 bhp S3 engine in it that is used on tracks so i dont hammer the '32. It'll shame most things short of 60k out there and gives me all the raw pleasure i need. Then when i want comfort, effortless speed and a great sound track it's the .:R all the way. It stays.

Oooo nice video, they still sound like hair-dryers.

Riz

They may be missing the other 2 cylinders, but get used to seeing the back end of the R-series, Riz :P:grin: I've tried to like it and "appreciate" it, but I still think the Rocco is butt ugly.

Yes I agree that the Rocco has a ugly butt... like the Golf but obviously not in the sameway I like the original

And to see the back end of the R Golf we would have to be engaged in some kind of sprint/race.... something which I rarely do anymore.... I just love to cruise with the windows down and listening to that burble.... people always point and look at my car..... love it!

There is more to life than bhp and outright performance. A lot of which is academic in today's roads. Something which you have proven by selling your GTI and getting a Datsun pick-up +++

In rare occasions I do want to push the performance envelope, that's why I keep a GSXR in the garage:roflmao:

....Whereas there is more to life than performance, when driving anywhere at anytime, responsible use of power is far safer.

How do you work out that swopping a GTI for a Datsun pick-up is motivated by "today's roads"? What about the pick-up suiting the lifestyle of the family/owner better?

Pushing a performance envelope need not be rare - You don't have to break speed limits to have a lot of fun and enjoyment driving.

Calm down chaps, I was only having a laugh :roflmao:I fully appreciate that there is more to life than outright power - I own a pick up (albeit a very torquey one) Although I would never go as far as ruling it out completely, I wouldn't want to own a R-series Golf or any hot hatch for that matter as it doesn't suit my life right now. In any guise, VW's range-topping hot hatches are the dog's danglies anyway +++
