18ME
Audi's pricing for options is a little confusing, can anyone tell me what you get in terms of CD, tape etc when you spec satnav+? The guide says that you get a tuner and an MP3 player (haven't got a clue how these things work mind) but no mention of a CD player. Help
Sven
I'm looking at the A4/S4 brochure right now (NOT Cab!) and that says there is no CD player included with Navi+. They advise to order a CD changer seperately. It states it's "Concert II (without CD)". Nothing about mp3 either tho, maybe they changed that for the S cab? Hope that helps... nwijnands
The last time I checked the same was true for the regular (non-S) cab. No MP3 either, so if you want MP3 you need a non-AUDI CD changer like the Sony CDX-T70 (comes with Audi connector) or a Phatbox...
EdIver
I think the best thing to do it to specify a CD changer mounted in the glovebox. You don't get a front-loading CD player which is one of the reasons I went for Satnav basic. Ed
Snail
What stereo does the A8 have? cos autoexpress said it had sat nav and MP3, surely its the same as an A4 and A6 unit?
jdehoogh
The sat nav+ in my cab does not play music or mp3 cds. Therefore I ordered the 6 cd player (mounted in the glove box). Its an option. The standard nav+ comes without cd player (at least in my MD04 cab)
Big_Dan
You'll need to spec a changer in the boot - all will become clear soon
18ME
Thanks for all the replies. I got the info from Audi's website for pricing on the cab.... DVD Satellite navigation system Plus, DVD based route planning with ! ! ! ! ! ! ! 1,680.85 1,975.00 2.5 6.5” colour monitor, RDS radio, MP3 player, Driver’s Information System (DIS) and European coverage DVD disc Is this different to the std satnav+, have they upgraded it then? So I need to specify a cd changer otherwise I don't get a CD at all, is this correct? Cheers Martin
18ME
I've just looked at the A4/S4 price list and it says the same as the cab, so they must have changed it. Was it DVD or CD based before?
Newbie123
There's a new DVD Sat Nav system available on the A3 & A4 from february and it's based on the MMI system fitted to the A8. Having seen the details of it I've changed my A3 order to include it . I've not specified a CD player because with 2 mp3 memory card slots I'll be able to have my entire music collection instantly available. Here are two press releases about it ..... Audi press release VW Vortex BTW I see there was a new press release about the S4 cabriolet yesterday..... S4 cabriolet press release
Big_Dan
Yep it's all new as above - wasn't sure if the info had been released yet. Looks pretty good to me - if a bit expensive, but it's about time they went to DVD. MP3 is an excellent idea, but I wonder what will happen to Phatbox and whether it'll be as good. jdehoogh
From the picture going with the press release I can tell you that it's a different system than I have in my cab, which is still CD based. If they offer it on the cab from feb, just go for it. It for sure will be a much better system than the nav+ on CD basis
Sven
Yep, that's new allright! The one in my S4 brocure is still CD based. Had I gone for a new S4 it would have been delivered this month. This piece of info would have hugely P'd me off in that case...
bearra
Hi all Haven't logged on for a while so catching up! Just read this thread and I'm wondering?!?!? My cab has been delayed delivery because of the SatNav, I'm in for build week 9, do you reckon I will get the new system? I will be a bit peeved if I end up forking out £2K for a system that is out of date when I get it! Anyone know how I can find out - Audi UK? Any tel numbers?? Cheers
Cupramax
Good god, £2175!! Thats bonkers, mp3 player or no mp3 player....

Cheers [/ QUOTE ] I would try your dealer first and get them to check up on it. As far as I'm aware the new DVD system will be fitted to cars from February onwards. Certainly the January 2004 pricelist quotes this as the only option unless you go for the cheaper system without the screen which is still CD-rom based. But as I say get in touch with your dealer and they should be able to get Audi Uk to confirm with the factory which system will be fitted.
jdehoogh
Would you expect that the systems can easily be switched around (i.e. same connectors and no additional units in the car)? This because my current unit is expected to be switched by the dealer because of ill ulimination of the screen... would be a great deal if they switched it with a new system
GCab
Before you all go all out for MP3 (the one or two who are ordering without CD for this reason), bear in mind that a few record companies are putting digital copy-protection on future releases that may stop you playing them on PC and ripping mp3 from them, even when legally bought. [/ QUOTE ] As I understand, the new unit is exactly the same price of the old unit. The £2175 is the cost from a Std car but if you have an Se or Sport etc the cost is £1700 ish. bearra
Cheers Guys I got hold of the dealer Newbie who contacted production and I'm getting the new system If I had ordered 2 days earlier I would have got the old system. Dolphin my guess is the connections will be similar if not identical, the new one may have bigger display and buttons on one side, but no technology outside the box has changed or any other input device like the antenna. GanS there's ways round everything! Not that I have ever ripped MP3's but the latest CD that tries clever new technology (The Darkess Album) can't be ripped by most software but I hear there are ways round it. My theory on all that is yes they can delivery more secure ways to protect stuff but likewise Jo Blogg can deliver new ways round it. 18ME Never looked at it that way, the dealer tried to make out to me today that I was getting a £700 upgrade for free! Yada yada yada..... Thanks for the clearer perspective!

JayL
Hi guys... I am in the process of ordering an A3 2.0TDI, with SatNav+ I know it has a 6.5 inch screen or whatever and is mounted on the centre console...I jusat have 2 questions. Firstly, is the unit retractable/coverable to prevent theft/damage? Secondly, as the SatNav+ is DVD based, can it play DVD movies? Cheers JayL
Newbie123
[ QUOTE ] Hi guys... Firstly, is the unit retractable/coverable to prevent theft/damage? [/ QUOTE ] Afraid not, though the risk of theft is low as it's integrated into the dashboard. [ QUOTE ] Secondly, as the SatNav+ is DVD based, can it play DVD movies? [/ QUOTE ] Again no, but it will play MP3 CDs as well as the MP3 memory cards.
homerj
Would love an MP3 capable stereo in my new car, but alas not enough to spend £1900 or whatever it is for the sat nav +. Really think MP3 should be standard on the symphony by now, or at least as part of the Bose option, its not really a new thing anymore is it
