Pincher
Bit of a 'get one if you want one' type of question but I'm wondering if I'd be wasting my money? Basically, I love the Wii and the fact that you can pick up pretty much any game within about 10 minutes and that they are instantly 'playable'. I wouldn't mind an XBox but just a little concerned that if I can't get to grips with the game pretty much straight away, then I won't bother playing it. Additionally, which one to get? Arcade, Elite or Super Elite? Would I really need a 250gb Hard Drive?
Arch
Knowing what type of games are you in to would probably help? If you really like how the Wii plays (and I guess you're not bothered too much about the quality of the graphics?) then stick with it. If you want something, shall I say, more grown up? with far far better graphics, simulation etc. then have a look at the 360. Do you want to play online? Do you want to pay 35-40 a year for the privilege? Do you want to play DVDs on it, download movies/stream stuff from your PC, listen to Last.fm, access Facebook/Twitter/Sky? Go and play on a mates if you haven't already done so or find a shop where one is setup to play. Have a look at something like Forza3 if you like racing games or Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed II for the stunning visuals. At the end of the day, it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it.
Pincher
Knowing what type of games are you in to would probably help? Erm, whatever the kids have on really - MarioKart, Sonic, Super Smash Bros, Wii Sports etc etc. I quite like the driving games despite being rubbish at them. I really liked Half-Life years ago on the pc but haven't ever really played anything like Call of Duty and the like. If you really like how the Wii plays (and I guess you're not bothered too much about the quality of the graphics?) then stick with it. If you want something, shall I say, more grown up? with far far better graphics, simulation etc. then have a look at the 360. Better graphics is part of the appeal, as well as slightly more realistic gameplay. Do you want to play online? Do you want to pay 35-40 a year for the privilege? Do you want to play DVDs on it, download movies/stream stuff from your PC, listen to Last.fm, access Facebook/Twitter/Sky? I do a bit of MarioKart online, so I guess the answer would be a yes to that. No objection to paying for the privilege either - even if only so mates can laugh at my ineptitude Didn't know you could download stuff onto it  Go and play on a mates if you haven't already done so or find a shop where one is setup to play. Have a look at something like Forza3 if you like racing games or Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed II for the stunning visuals. Good idea - need to find out when Chelsea Mick is next at home At the end of the day, it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it. Have you been talking to my missus????? Tipex
If you like having to pay for the privilege of connecting to your internet that you already pay for, and you like being without your console while it's being swapped by microsoft for another one that works, a bit, for a while, then the answer is maybe! Otherwise just stick with the Wii, or get a proper 'grown up' console, the PS3, far superior to the Xbox, and I've had both.
Arch
or get a proper 'grown up' console, the PS3, far superior to the Xbox Tell me, just how is Sony's online multiplayer gameplay these days? Still the same two people using it?

Oh come on! I've had mine 3-4 years now and while yes it's been back to MS for a new board, it was back with me within 2 weeks... the rest of the time it's been fine To be honest the only thing I use it for is for the COD games, I've got a couple of other games but haven't played them in over 2 years... the graphics on the latest COD game are amazing
Mac
I had both the XBOX360 and the PS3. Used to use both, then just gradually forgot about the Xbox so sold it. Yes, the online is a better experience in the 360, but not massively so. Also, not sure about the comment about nobody being on the PS3 online - there's loads everytime I've tried? Tipex
Tell me, just how is Sony's online multiplayer gameplay these days? Still the same two people using it? Very good actually, never have any issues connecting, always plenty of people playing, and I don't have to pay MS for the privilege of using my I ternet connection that I already pay for! It's at least as good as xbox live, just without all the crap, and if you want all the crap, it's in the playstation store anyway. Being serious for a moment, I'm not sure where the idea that Sonys online gaming isn't as good as MS's comes from. I've had all 3 of the big consoles, I still have the PS3 and the Wii, the xbox got sold years ago, seems most people who've got/had them all drop the xbox first. Mac
Like I say I've moved to the PS3 permanently and even I'd say the MS online experience is better. Then again you pay for it, and in my opinion it's not *that* much better.
Tipex
Honestly can't see how it's any better at all personally? Setting up or joining an online game is exactly the same on both consoles, as the process is done by the game, so the same game on both systems, has the same process. Mac
Yeah, I guess so. I just found that the Xbox online was more intuitive to use, and seemed more reliable. Both of those are subjective.
Riz
I`ve got a PlayStation3, its pretty much been used everyday for lengthy period of times, not had any reliability problems although my brothers one died today with a yellow light. I use mine for everything..... freeview, pvr, movies, music, photos and games. I`m not a hardcore gaming adict but when I want the odd blast I can pickup the controller and just play. The PlayStation3 to me is more of a multi-purpose device. I would say I use it more for telly and movies than games and it doesn a wonderful job. shark_90
I have an Xbox mainly because for the little time I have to use it, I can't justify getting a PS3 just to play the same games on it. I would like one for GT5, but as it's been coming out for three years and still hasn't, I'll probably give it a miss. I love FPS games although I'm not great at them. I have to say I found the PS3 version of COD4 multiplayer easier.. it's just an observation but I think more of the proper hardcore gamers have an Xbox which can make multiplayer games a bit of a drag for me, as I'm not good enough to get good before I get bored, if you know what I mean. From the sounds of it, you seem too casual a gamer to really warrant deviating from your Wii. If you're enjoying that, then a new game now and then should do you fine. Otherwise the PS3 is a good bet as it's still a useful machine even if you don't play that many games, I do appreciate that I am a little biased

Sorry, I couldn't resist chucking the bait out, especially as this was a "Should I buy an XBOX thread?" and you just appeared like a typical PS3 fanboy and seemingly spurted console superiority Not worth getting the keep net. Tipex
Actually, I think you took first bite of my hook!! I love the Xbox vs PS3 threads, as it's so easy to start an all out war, and thats not even what this thread was for! I don't play my Playstation enough to be a fanboy, and I buy all the consoles and get rid of the ones I play the least, this time around it was Playstation, next time? who knows. pontyslapper
I could quite happily have all of 'em like most on here. I however have a Wii and an old PS2 for games, a couple of original Xbox's for media streaming duty (£20 each!) and thats me done. PS2 tends to be for Singstar and that sort of thing while the Wii is softmodded and has a 400Gb HDD sat on the back with backups of all the family's games - most are rarely played, its just that the nieces and nephews are between 6-14 and quite heavy handed with the discs despite knowing that some are upwards of 20 odd quid a chuck! My brother in law is relieved his kids don't have to use his originals and replace them every 5 mins with new copies! I do have some old PC games that I hack about on such as transport tycoon and some demo stuff like Airport Mania (kiddy, cute graphics but is a great laff!) Its really down to how much time you think you'll spend on using them - if its an odd blat stick with the Wii, OK the games aren't graphically up there, but they are easy to get in to and fill 'the hole' that we are inevitably trying to fill! pontyslapper
Depends on the serial number and software version. Google AdeWii - print it off and save all the files you need before Ninty pull the accumulated knowledge. You'll need an 2GB SD Card or MicroSD with SD Adaptor as well
