Q7 TV etc.

Ok, just been reading up on the other thread about TV and DAB. My car (ooo... is it higher specced than Daves I wonder?? Fight! Fight!... lol) is very high specced and I have the TV. And yes it gives me DAB radio, but from minimal testing (so far) it seems reception isn't great.

So, firstly, is there a way of improving this? Also, how easy is it to acheive "TV whilst driving". And finally, I have screens in the back of the headrests, with a media player in the boot, can I get the TV playing through these too?

On the topic of the rear screens and media player, I'm still trying to work it all out. The car was a finance repo, but in the paperwork I found the previous owners mobile number, so I may or may not give him a call amd ask. So far I have worked out how to play a DVD, but not worked out how to get sound! Lol.

I have the same set up mate.. fire away with the questions.

My kids liked to watch celebrity big brother on our last big trip. Select media on your MMI, then click source, you'll see TV, AV1 and AV2.. select TV for all screens to move to TV. Reception can be poor in remote areas, but is better on motorways etc.

You can make the screen visable on the move but it involves moving cabling around the back of the unit.

Regarding sounds on the DVD.. do you have the headphones?.. they maybe in the cavity under the boot. Just turn them on and the sounds comes via them. Otherwise you can play it through the BOSE.. select AV1 on the media button (via source) and the sounds will come out.

TV on the move is easy and doesn't require any cabling, it's a software solution.

The genuine RSE is not connected to the main MMI system, it is totally seperate. So unless you have a 3rd party system you will not get sound through the speakers unless you link the two together. (It may already be if it was 3rd party)

As for improving reception, well the Q7 is one of the best vehicles for TV reception due to it's height and the 4 antennas located on each side and the boot glass. Much better than the A8 D3 which has all 4 in the rear glass and is pretty poor. So I can't really offer much in the way of improving reception.

All sounds quite exciting!! Thanks, will have a play around when I find some time.

Not sure if the setup is aftermarket or not. I thought it may have been, until I saw a zero value invoice from Audi doing investigative work on system. The other reason I thought it may be 3rd party is because there is a remote sensor "stuck" to the inside of the B pillar behind my head. Quality. Lol.

Just googled it and mine are very different. Mine are sunk in to the back of the headrests. I really need to allocate some time to sit down and try and work it all out.

Just a thought, re. my bluetooth/phone issue, is there a way of connecting my iphone as an ipod and also as a phone? that would be problem solved!!

Sorry mate.. I have the roof too

Cables are all built in!

Lol. Doh!!! Doesn't look like it from the photo - thought I had you there! I'll try again... I can't seem to see your lane assist button next to the central locking button on the drivers door...

My wires too are built in to the headrest and seat presumably, but these are two seperate pieces so how do your wires get from your headrest to the seat? I hate the black plastic things on mine so would love to work out a way of losing them.

True!!.. i don't have lane assist!! Roof seems dark because the wife likes the blind across.

i can only presume that the wires go up through the metal supports for the headrest?.. no where else for them to be!

Thought you were about to tell me it was bluetooth!

Ah ok, you had the blind shut. Here's something mad - my blind is white/light grey. WTF?? The rest of the car is black - what were they thinking??
