mark88
Had my MOT couple of weeks ago, my warranty runs out at the end of April. Ever since the MOT I've had the brake pad warning symbol come on. I'm assuming brake pads aren't covered under warranty are they?

PetrolDave
Brake pads are a "wear & tear" item.
mark88
I'm getting bombarded at the minute, had the MOT couple weeks ago, then I get the brake pad warning, now my service light is on and the tax disc renewal just arrived. Car booked in tomorrow, brake pad warning light hasn't come on last couple days either.
mb
I'd have a look at your pad thickness first as it may be the sensor wires in which case I would be arguing it is a warranty item & just unfortunate they can't replace the wires without new brake pads... Mine had a similar problem which went away (so far) with a new battery - I have also heard it can be the loom down to the sensors so do be sure the pads really need replacing ! mark88
Took the car in this morning, bloke at the service desk says it might need new discs and that would be around £1200. This is before looking at it btw. Havin' a laugh ain't he? 3 yr old RS4 with 12k miles, surely doesn't need new discs????
mark88
Heard from the dealer, brakes and discs fine, they're checking for faulty wiring. needs 4 new tyres though.
DanG
£1200 for pads and disks inc labour i hope? That's alot isnt it? My old Range Rover had pads and disks for £700 inc labour last year from a main dealer for instance....

Also you`ll find they dont last very long at all, having seen many secondhand RS4`s between 30-45k miles having had brake replacements already.Riz

Depends on your driving style... I was taught to use mostly engine braking (and there's a lot of that with a 4.2L V8). I had to replace my front pads for the first time at 33,000 miles, and was told that I when I need new pads again (at about 55,000 miles) I will need new discs then. I don't think that's bad life for the pads and discs on such a high performance car.
