It's the only way you learn your, and your cars limits, if you've never crossed them, you won't know how good you could be/not be!

See I understand that, maybe i've just been lucky then, i've had my cars sideways once or twice trying to find the limit but i've always done it on roads that are likely to be more forgiving. I guess if i'd overcooked it by an mph more it might of been different. I'm slightly more cautious in finding the limits, rather than just throw it into the first corner i'll push it a few times to see what happens.

All on private roads of course....

Passed in = Nissan Micra

First Car = Renault 5 LeCar II

First Crash in = Renault 5 LeCar II

Coming back from a rave in 1991, myself driving, 4 mates in the car with me.

Got back to my mates house and his parents hadn't left for work, we were all fecked so decided to go park up outside the village, have a smoke and wait for them to leave.

It was really foggy and really cold, as we came down a hill we could no longer see passed the car, I put the brakes on and they failed, nothing, nada, zilch!!

Then realised were on sheet ice, but it was too late, we were at the bottom of the hill, hit the kerb doing around 30mph I guess and up over a verge and landed in someones front garden, rear wheels were off the ground hanging over this verge.

After the shock had subsided I got out of the car to check the damage and standing 5ft from me was the owner holding a bin bag and a rake.

I couldn't think of anything sensible to say and nor did I apologise I just put my hands on my hips, looked up at the sky and the fog and said "Morning! It just said on the radio it'll be clear by lunchtime, finger crossed eh!"

Jumped back in the car, closed the door and pissed myself laughing.

I passed my test in a 1982 Ford laser 1.1.

First car a 1966 Riley Elf.

First crash in a 1967 Volkswagen Variant. Rain, strong winds, slippery roads, narrow bridge, off-camber corner, driving during a cyclone. In fact, I'm amazed, I made it as far as I did! Took out a crash barrier and came to rest on a farm fence. Still managed to carry on driving though... Good old Vee Dubs, eh?

Passed test : I can't remember what I passed my test in... its a total blank

First Car - Chrysler Avenger 1600

First crash - A mates Morris Marina estate in 1984. Cause : wet road, bald tyres, too fast, shite driver. Smashed it in to a stone wall. Lucky we didnt go through it - hell of a drop on the other side... car was a write off....we still laugh about it now.

Test: 1.2 V-Reg Vauxhall Corsa Manual

First Car: Type R Civic for 5 minutes before a full refund after finding out insurance was £6000 (didn't know enough to check in advance) and then buying an identical car as the test car - 1.2 V reg Vauxhall Corsa Manual

First Crash: The Corsa on my birthday :)

Reason: Day off from work, forgot, went in, crashed after undertaking 3 cars and not making the 4th as we both merged into the same lane. Typical boy-racer and glad those days are well in the past.

First Major crash: Head-on crash with my Astra after a foreign driver from Poland forgot briefly what side of the road he was supposed to be in and moved into my lane suddenly at 40mph. Combined speed = 60mph 3 cars totalled.
