Hello All,

Just in the process of parting with my Alfa 2001 156 1.8TS and aquiring a 52 plate 130 TDI A4 and i have a few questions that im sure you guys can answer.

-Is mine a B6? it is the post curvy A4 (which i used to have a '97 1.8T many moons ago), but pre facelift previous shape.

-I want cruise control fitting, there are a few companies that do it for about £240 on google, but i looked into fitting it to a TDI leon a few years back and it seemed pretty simple, does anyone have any advice on part prices, and the actual job (I have yet to seach for related threads so if there is a guide that would be good)

-Not sure if 130BHP will be enough so considering a re-map for when im not sat on the motorway. Anyone have any recomendations on a good re-map and or place to have it done in either the Northampton/MK, or Leeds areas? I also distinctly remember finding a remapping company that fitted a variable map for the leon that worked off the cruise control stalk, but i cant find it anymore. Anyone recognise this, and or know if it can be done to an A4?

-Finally (for the time being) is there any common faults that i should look out for? I can find any for this model on any review sites, but i know that i had to replace the fuel pump on the old 1.8T at great expense and laterly found out that it is not an uncommon fault.

Cheers!

If anyone wants to know anything about 156's or Hyundai Coupe's, i was pretty active on those forums and know a fair bit about a fair bit, so feel free to ask!

Hello and welcome to Tyresmoke.

- Yes, you have a B6

- Fairly easy to do, you need a new lower steering column cowling, the stalk, and a steering contorl module. There is a long post not far down in here about it. You also need access to VAG COM.

- Goto Shark Performance - Volkswagen Audi Seat Skoda Mercedes BMW Ford Renault Tuning for your remap, Ben will also fit cruise for you. Well known and respected on here, knows what he's doing. Both cars (3.0TDi and 1.8T) have been remapped by Ben and they are both spot on. Not really in your area - Mansfield, but I'm in Leeds and it's well worth the trip...

- Not sure on the common faults on the 1.9TDi specifically - heavy on front suspension- top mounts, bushings etc, I'm sure more knowledge TDi folk will be along shortly

Cheers Chas,

Im up and down the M1 between Leeds and MK everyweek, so Mansfield is not too much of a detour.

I'd echo the advice to seek out Ben (aka Shark90) to help with your cruise control, he's one of the experts on that, and his (and others') advice helped me to fit cruise to my car.

If you fancy doing it yourself, it's really not that hard to do. The steering wheel needs to come off, you may need to change the steering wheel control module, you'll have to fit a new stalk, and you'll then need VAG COM to change the coding of your car to tell the relevant modules that you have cruise fitted. As Chas says, there's a thread here that is very comprehensive. I've posted a link in that thread to a guide which I compiled (mainly from other people's previous work) that may help you if you decide to go the DIY route.
