Where are all the A5 Cab owners then?

Just curious to find out how many A5 cabs we have on here, specs, thoughts etc especially if coming from an A4 Cab. The lease on my cab runs out in two weeks (can't believe I have had this car for 4 years now) and my plan is to order an S5 Cab in Phantom black (naturally :) ) in late September. Can't order any earlier due to sorting out the finance etc.

I am going up to Reading Audi to start the negotiations today, however due to their service numpties not being able to diagnose an ongoing problem with my aircon on four different visits I will say to them that unless they can get creative in terms of finally sorting out my AC, which hasn't been working properly for months, then I will probably be off to Camberley Audi instead.

My car went into Reading in May 2008 due to loss of pressure in the AC system, they recharged it, two months later they replaced the AC pump, probably due to the fact the old one wore due to a continued leak in the system. In 2009 I took it in twice again, they re-charged the system when the car was still in warranty and it leaked again. So I left it as it was the end of summer by then. Last month I took the car to a BMW/Audi Specialist in Binfield, Bracknell, recharged the system and put dye in. Two weeks later same problem, went back and he was able to find out straight away that the condensor unit had been holed and this was the cause of the leak. So I am going to have an interesting conversation with Reading Audi later as to why they didn't pick this up on four different visits. New condensor with this BMW/Audi specialist is around £500, I am sure Audi will charge around £700.

Still, if they want an S5 Cab order they will have to get creative on helping out with the costs of repairing the AC, even 50:50 would be a help !

Hi tyresmokers, just joined. Glasgow boy.

Just read that the A5 has dissapointing back space.

Bought the burd an A4 cab 18 month ago from new, she is wanting to trade up to an A5 cab in 6 months. Love the current car. Personally think the A5 cab looks a bit absurd, like a big American type carbuncle.

Would rather go for another A4 but S4 Cab.

Any punters advice?

A5 nice IMO, but as a cab looks a bit weird??

Hi - welcome to Tyresmple.

If you're looking for an A4 cab then it'd be a previous generation.

Audi decided that instead of adding a coupe to the A4 range they would split the types of car.

Therefore :

A4 : Saloon / Avant

A5 : Coupe / Cab

Hi Mark,

I picked mine up a couple of weeks ago, 2.0T Sline and yes Booster I know I've not put any pics up, been manic at work ;) just for you... its nearly dark and only got a camera phone to hand.

Comparison to the old A4 is hard for me coming from a 3.2 quattro to a 2.0T FWD. Dynamically from a drivertrain point of view the old A4 would wipe the floor with it. The A5 handles more sharply but I'm disappointed by the relative lack of traction and torque steer, to the point I'm considering changing it for a quattro but seeing as Audi have chosen not to give a manuall quattro then I probably wont.

It looks great, the interior is fab but still little things niggle after 4 years with the A4. The B&O stereo is no better, in fact I think the BOSE in the A4 still pips it, as usuall B&O have wasted their time fannying around with DSP crap instead of putting some decent speakers in and driving them properly with some real POWER, also who's idea was it to move the 4 window down button off the door handle with the rest of the window switches and put it under the arm rest in the centre console, cretins!!! The sport seats are much better than the old A4 ones giving a lot more support, there's also vents in the rear which is nice when its too hot for passengers. The roof is a lot quicker in operation and works up to 30mph, no probs with that. I suppose I'm being a fussy git but I still pine for the A4... Mark, I'd pop over a read some of the posts re poor economy over the A5 forums before you jump to an S5... If you want any more info drop me a PM. +++

New Boy too. Perthshire. Just come from an M5 Touring to an A5 Cab 3.0 D S-line Q. Had it two weeks or so, driven BM's for years but fancied a change. Not as good to drive as the 335 Cab I tried but more space and looks better to me. Loving the gearbox and economy compared with the M5....

I had a brand new A5 Cab 2.0Sline out as a loan car for 2 weeks from my Audi dealer. Nice car - very nice interior - MMI Sat nav very good and I found the Bang Olufsen sound system to be very good and certainly better than BOSE.

The rear room is not very big and the car is overall quite big and difficult to judge where the bodywork ends as with a lot of modern cars. I found it quite disconcerting on narrow country lanes. Performance was quite good but sound quality none existent. Economy nothing special given the cars weight. I added up the options fitted to the loan car and worked out is was a £39K car - ouch.

Its the price that put me off.

My A4 Cab was well spec'd with Bose, heated seats, S-line, Park assist, Avus Silver and Nav etc

Loading all that into the A5 configurator brings back a price of £6k MORE than that of the old A4 version - prior to a discount.

£6k is a big jump in my book for a similar (if a bit bigger) car.

Ended up with a high spec A6 Avant for the same money.

Blimey.

I don't own one, but I was curious about the handbrake actually. How well does it work on (say) a steep hill road?

I go over Hardknott Pass in the Lakes on a reasonably frequent basis and I've had enough hairy moments to think twice about something too 'radical'/city-oriented ... I've had to snatch at the brake more than once when the numpty in front of me stopped and I had to do a hillstart at a 35 degree incline, and I don't know how much to trust the new gizmo.

Any clues?

A4 cab owner here, half-minded to 'upgrade' but seeing a few doubts growing...

If you do a lot of driving in the lakes I'd suggest make sure you get one with the hill hold option as the standard electric handbrake really is form over function. Why the hell they insist on fitting these over a normal mechanical brake I will never know. It works as you can put it on and just drive away and it releases automatically but dont think I'd want to try stop start on really steep hills with it.
