Which Crossover ?

I've always liked the look of the Kuga it also seems reasonably quick for what it is and good MPG, the 163bhp Titanium 4wd version is 9.3 0-60 and 47mpg. Not as much torque as the Mazda and a bit smaller but got good reviews as well. From the 3 on the list though it looks like you're after the slightly larger crossover though.

That Kia looks great, and the reason why? They took lots of the Audi Exterior and Interior designers from them apparently a few years ago.

The C'eed was the first car they did and apparently other manufactures couldn't believe how good the quality of the interior was for the price.

I think Kia are going to be quite big, they are doing what Toyota did in the 80's embarrassing the rest of the market on warranty and matching them in quality.

With more and more snow hitting the UK and the wife feels like a change of car too, we are going to trade in her 2 year old Mazda 6 estate and get a crossover. She likes the idea of the safety with child on board and less chance of getting stuck in the snow, we have lots of family and friend in very rural hilly areas.

There seems to be a lot of choice some are ruled out straight away but the shortlist in her prefered order is

Mazda CX 7 - Stunning amount of standard kit like her 6 plus electric memory seats, built in sat/nav, reversing camera, 19" wheels plus lots more, including a proper torsion based 4WD. Now they have driopped the diesel engine in it has decent MPG etc but its still a rare site. Seems the £27k list price is easily reduced by £3k if buying new.

Mazda CX-7 specifications and prices

VW Tiguan - My favourite especially as its due a facelift in the nxt few months in line with the Golf and others. Will cost more but suspect it will hold more value. 2.0 TFSI sport version looks nice.

Audi Q5 - The most expensive of the trio but nice to look at in darker colours.

Any thoughts from those with experience in crossovers or people who have made the move.

It looks like we will be going down the VW Tiguan route. IMHO its a decent looking car and about to get the VW family refresh and the updated 211 PS 2.0TFSo engine with improved MPG and lowered CO2. So it will be either the sport or R line well speced up with toys :)

The Mazda is nice but residuals look poor and the performance, MPG and CO2 are all very poor compared to the VW

I cant believe VW only give a 1 year breakdown on their cars !

Been like that for a long time I'm afraid even although their sister comanies give 3 years. Last 2 VWs I bought I got the dealer to extend it by another 2 years as part of the deal, although it only costs circa. £150 to extend vw assist at renewal time for extra 2yrs

Don`t forget the winter rubber though....I was stuck behind a VW Tiguan the other week...wheels spinning and going no where....My Defender just plowed on regardless.

Still the VW is a very nice car......Another option is the CITROËN C-CROSSER....a mate bought one a few months ago.....Interior is a bit plasticky....but with kids in the back thats no bad thing....drives reasonably well and the standard spec is as good as fully loaded.....but it certainly does`t have the quality feel of the VW....but it is lot cheaper.....Having said all that....if the VW is within budget I`d get one....I was just looking at it from a "lets buy a relatively cheap 4x4 family hack that the kids can wreck without me having a heart attack!!!"

Agree about the winter rubber going to order with 19" wheels and get some winter 18" wheels and rubber too. The tiguan that was stuck may have been a 2WD version. My S3 has been superb in the snow with the same Haldex system so with extra ground clearance and winter tyres the Tiguan should be good.

We dabled with the idea of the A4 SLine Quattro but the wife felt it was just another saloon

We are down to 2 choices

Tiguan Rline

Cruise Control

DAB

Dvd navigation/6.5" colour touch screen Dynaudio soundpack highline multifunction computerCD/MP3/DVDaux input 30GB hard drive rear

Front/rear parking assist

Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic corner lighting+automatic height adjustment+headlight washers

Pearl paint

Telephone prep

Leather electiric seats

Drive the deal price £30,800 with £3,200 discount

Audi Q5 special edtiion (lots of standard kit inc e 20" wheel and electric boot and B&O sound system!)

Tech pack high with Audi park plus

Boot load liner

Peal paint

Privacy glass

heated front and rear seats

Interior light pack

Tyre perssure monitoe

Drive the deal price £36,800 with £2,250 discount

Test drives booked for Saturday, I would prefer the 2.0 TFSI 211 engine over the 17O diesel but cant help thinking the later is the best choice for resale etc.

The Q5 seems to have excellent residuals and the Tiguan appars to be getting facelift in the summer, the boot is bigger in the Q5 and it uses traditional Quattro rather than Haldex in the Tiguan

Tough choice really if they both drive well.

Any advice welcome

I'd want a real Q7 for 36 grand, not a scale model of one. :coffee:

I don't think there is much chance of that though, they start at £41k before you've added a single option or even selected metallic paint.

Like many of their competitors, a good example of cars creeping up and up in price.

It just seems a frightening amount of money for a mini SUV. All be it one that's better looking than its big brother. (Not hard...)[/quotei]

I agree but the alternatives I the crossover market are very poor in various ways. The Q5 sline special ediion has a stack of kit, check out the site.
