micalee
This is my second R32 MK5 and the second to have lousy steering! The issue is if you move the wheel too fast (or as when parking) it feels notchy and instead of a smooth turn, it give momentary resistance; Everyday motoring is fine. I enquired about this with my first one (2006) and VW told me it was just the way it is. Since 2006, has anything been resolved with what apparently seems to be an issue with these? Software update? If you've not experienced this, give it a try - turn the wheel quickly
TP27
Possibly the age old Steering Rack issue ? Has been an issue throughout the early MkV R32's. Usually sorted out through Warranty.
TIDYDUBS
There is a few things you can do....tyres should be spot on and pressures but i know you have dealt with this......there are a few adjustments you can do with those through basic settings/adaptations via the VAS testers not too sure about VAGCOM it adjusts the sensitivity being electro mechanical steering box. Will do my best to sort it for ya.Its NOT how it is f#$king lame asses
Luke
Possibly the age old Steering Rack issue ? Has been an issue throughout the early MkV R32's. Usually sorted out through Warranty. I had my steering rack replaced on a then brand new Mk3 VR6 highline. Must be an old VAG problem then. You turn the wheel and theres a slight knock at a certain point. As you say its when its on near full lock so when parking or going very slow, ok normal driving. I'd get it into a dealer/VW specialist to have a look. TIDYDUBS
I have dealt with this type of issue before but on low spec Golfs etc. Im not too sure if you can do it now but in the adaptation channels of steering electronics, it will be a low number 1 or 2 i think and adjust the settings. It was only used for motability and older generation of people. You had sport and the like.....its been such a while. It may or may not have been taken away i really could not tell you to be honest. Good ole VW. Some body with a VAGCOM may be able to do something im sorry i cant be of any more help........if id have had the car in my workshop id not have fobbed you off, i would have a least had a good go for you. The Creaking you often get on the early ones is a new rack but this only on left turns and modified racks were introduced about February 2008 i think? There have been other problems with squeaking too but again new racks. Hope this helps...............peace
bazza_g
My MK4 R32 did this, I thought they all did? You move the wheel too fast and it's like you're too 'quick' for the power steering to catch up?
TIDYDUBS
Depends how bad it is. On the mk 5's it was pretty bad on some in the early days.
Luke
It's a definite knock, once you know it's there it's almost like you have to turn the steering too make sure it hasn't gone! Drove me nuts!
micalee
Can anyone shed any light on if VAGCOM can lighten the steering?
