Will have to see if it is real, as at the moment its just rumour.

But if it is, I would like to think that every person in the country would stop buying the gutter press.

Feck all chance of that, unfortunately.

We'll just have to wait and see.

The stories from the Levenson Inquiry are horrific. There really is no need to hear anymore, just shut them down/sack them all, make them a local paper writing about cats stuck in trees.

Oh, and jail Rebekah and Coulson for perjury.

Hang on a minute - isn't this thread getting just a bit out of control.

A load of posts replying to a speculative post that a paper may have been going to out him as gay.

So how would anyone, Levenson inquiry or otherwise prove beyond reasonable doubt, because that's the law of this country, that the paper, if they did do something or were about to do something contributed to his killing himself.

Sad though it is, it's actually Gary Speed who's broken the law, because committing suicide is against the law.

I reckon all this speculation should stop until someone other than a forum user or newspaper/other member of the media can definitively say what led to his committing suicide.

It's not really a fair comparison is it, Garry Glitter committed disgusting and illegal acts, being gay is neither of those.

Reporting on people breaking the law is fine, reporting on peoples personal lives is not in my opinion, and quite frankly, I have no interest in what 'celebs' get up to behind closed doors, and I don't understand why anyone else would, it's all rather low brow and pathetic to be honest.

Agreed Tipex but at the time GG was just a headline and not guilty at that stage! personally I have no interest in celebs lives but by the very nature of being a "celeb" people do take an interest in "shocking" headlines and secrets.

The headlines were about the discovery of child porn on his laptop and his subsequent arrest and charging, as far as I am aware. Nothing at all similar to 'outing' someone as gay, straight or otherwise, whether it's factual or not.

I am not comparing the two. I am merely pointing out that as much as we all seem to be appalled at the press when it suits us. Not supporting the press at all but just pointing out that one headline is basically the same as the next when it comes to reporting on celebs. Frankly to be in lime light you have to expect the spotlight to fall on you at times when you don't want it to.

For the record I am a lifelong Leeds fan so Gary Speed is high on my list of top blokes in football.

I'm only appalled at the press when they do stuff that's immoral, illegal or just wrong.

If, and a big IF the press was involved (because no-one actually knows) in trying to expose Gary Speed, regardless of what he may or may not have done, then people can, I'm sure, reserve their judgment on whether the press was justified in its involvement.

Now that Gary Speed is dead, legally the press can print whatever they like about him, true or otherwise. It doesn't take any investigative journalism to speculate he was gay. If he were gay, it would be very sad that he, a highly respectable figure, couldn't be the first to be open and try to get the whole issue out in the open.

Going through bins to write a story isn't illegal is it?

I agree that they are scum, but if it's not illegal, then it's just the fault of the morons that buy the paper, not the paper itself. Why would they not print a story if they knew it would sell their paper? Simple economics and up there with decisions made by bankers.

After briefly feeling sorry for Gary Speed, I'm now in complete boredom of the whole story and hope something far more important happens soon. Let his family get on with their lives.
