Hi there,

Bought a 2006 A4 cabriolet about two months ago and ever since I ve had it the fans are not producing heat. I have now been to 3 mechanics with the same issue and no one can understand where/ if there is a blockage which is stopping flow

So far I have had the heat matrix flushed twice and cleared so no blockage there. I've had a new metal water pump installed. The switch behind the dash replaced and the thermostat checked over.

I have looked at loads of forum pages about this and can not seem to resolve this issue. The most common thing which is mentioned is to replace the matrix, but two mechanics have said there is no blockage on flow. One is a little confused as when the car is sat in idle, no flow is going through the radiator. Once the car is revd then the flow starts and heat is produced to a medium level. as soon as idle again the heat cools and eventually cold.

Could someone please either advice whether the no flow is correct or to where the blockage would be that would be great.

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. thanks in advance

He said he's had a new metal water pump installed, so it shouldn't be that, and I'd hope one of the 3 mechanics was competent enough to check the thermostat, easy enough to do yourself though.

I have heard of this problem before in VAG circles, and I'm sure it was the heater matrix, even after repeated flushing through.

Thanks for the replies. The water pump is the metal one, the coolant is at the correct level and thermostat was checked by a competent mechanic. Though it does confuse them about the no flow when idle. I have also read that the matrix once replaced can sort the problem, but if the flow is not going to the matrix that wouldn't change it surely.

Have you tried talking to the service desk at your local Audi dealer - maybe it's a common problem then know about. Tell them you want to talk to someone first without booking in your car, so you don't get hit with labour charges. Doubtless they'll need to get it in to look at it, but why not let them look at it, tell you what the problem is, give you a price to fix it, you then get a price from your local specialist and make your decision from there.

In all honesty, I don't think you're getting anywhere asking on the internet, regardless of how knowledgeable people may or may not be.

Still no joy on this and the coolant is flowing everywhere whilst revd. Have noticed though that when you use the washer jets the fan speed increases for some reason. I have replayed a switch under the dash which controls the flap to open to allow hot air in, but again that did not solve it. Does it sound more like a electrical fault with this rather than a blockage for that reason.
