I need to get a new set for the S4 (B8 2010). they are 255/35 ZR19s Can't actually remember what is fitted now but I had a hunt and I'm seeing prices like

MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 2 £274.78

CONTINENTAL SPORT CONTACT £237.70

Dunlop SP Sport MAXX £229

Or I could grab something like

AVON ZZ5 XL £173.70

Now that's a lot less. Any views on this? Or any better suggestions?

Recent Evo review pulled the Continental ContiSport Contact 3 up in first place, then the Goodyear Eagle Asymmetrics up second (IIRC). Pilot Sport 2s have been around fro a long time - I ran them on my R32 about 6 or 7 years ago - they do a Pilot Sport 3 now.

Avons are a more budget-conscious tyre, so won't grip as well - not sure what they're like in the wet either.

I've got the same size wheels on my B8 A4 and it came shod with the Dunlops. For what is meant to be a "sporty" tyre they seem very hard wearing. Someone on a forum got 30k out of a set !! :o

I'll probably not need to change mine for another 18 months so choice could change but I'm currently thinking Conti Contact 3 (I hated the Contact 2 on my B6 S4 but this tyre gets much better reports) or the Pilot Sport 3's (I had the 2's on the B6 S4 and the stiffer side wall really helped the feel and turn in).

I'm not sure if it's value to you or not but the Dunlops are a run flat tyre if they're on suitable rims. I checked with Audi and they gave them the thumbs up. It's a handy thing for me as the wife (with two young kids) and the main users so it means she can easily get somewhere safe or even make it home.
