patently
So, a Brit has won the Tour de France, just before London hosts the Olympics that Paris wanted to host? Carlsberg don't do co-incidences,…

Twinspark
To be fair to the French, they do seem to really respect how Wiggins has dominated the Tour this year. Allegedly they've been chanting 'Allez Wiggo!' as he passes.
Tipex
That's because they are all pretending to be English for the Olympic games, they are even advertising for people to stay in France and 'take the train' to London, as well as, I think, somehow, actually hosting some Olympic events? Ian_C
Wiggins Cavendish and Froome have been epic. I'm enjoyed every stage of this years tour from the sofa whilst nursing my broken arm (Wiggins wrapping up the tour with an epic time trial prompted me to get got back in the saddle yesterday evening in the baking sunshine for the first time in almost two months, biking to work again tomorrow) Two years ago when Wiggins finished the tour in fourth he proved he could climb with the best of them, this year his time trialing and climbing were stunning, he uses his brain on the road and let people like Nibali and Evans make their attacks and tire themselves out, very tight grip on the race by Sky. Oh and Cav was good today, but on Friday he was utterly gobsmacking, he came from so far back, I've watched the last km about ten times now in awe! CarMad
A fantastic tour and a great win by Wiggo. Was good to see him do so well in the last time trial to show his true capabilities. Look forward to what he has to offer in the future.

Maxyboy
Cavs second from last win was outstanding. I knew the result as I watched the highlights and I was thinking they must have got the result wrong as he was so far back. The pace he managed to generate was unbelievable, I've literally never seen anything like it. A great effort for a Belgian, Kenyan and Manx boy from team sky. ;-)
Tipex
Are you making this up as you go along? No, there was a big thing about it on the local news, can't remember what it is (might be cycling) but something is being held in France.

Utter cobblers, there is no London 2012 Olympic sporting event being held in France. It's not called the Anglo-French Olympics
Tipex
So, what about the French signage and tannoy announcements? That was the whole point of the piece, Paris lost their bid, yet they still seem to be getting a piece of the pie, cobblers? Possibly, but you'll have to take that argument up with Meridian TV. CarMad
I think it's rather different to state an event is taking place in France and now you change the argument to signage and announcements, a little different don't you think? France is the founder of the modern Olympics, at all Olympics the announcements are given in French, the host country's language, and English in that order. For us that will mean only two announcements, no conspiracy those are the requirements from the IOC.
Tipex
I think it's rather different to state an event is taking place in France and now you change the argument to signage and announcements, a little different don't you think? I haven't changed the argument, I've simply added more information, and it's not 'my' argument, as I said above if you'd actually read it properly, it was a news report on Meridian TV, and I'm simply passing on what they said. Quite frankly I have zero interest in the games (don't assume that means I'm anti them being here), so I couldn't care less if it was being held in outer Mongolia with announcements in Afrikaans, and signage written in American English. garcon magnifique
Well, there are definitely no events taking place in France, so either Meridian TV think Weymouth is on the French coast, or you misheard it. Are you sure they weren't talking about Tour de France stages in England?
Tipex
No, I think it was some cycling stages if memory serves but definitely not the tour de France. It was well over a year ago so maybe the plans have changed since.

I'm not sure what you thought you heard but at no point have any, or would any, London 2012 Olympic events be planned to be held in France or anywhere other than here. Where's the logic in holding a London 2012 event in France? However, I do love the way that despite all presented before you there's not a snowballs chance in hell that you'll admit you got it wrong FYI The Olympic cycling events not in the velodrome are in Surrey
Tipex
I know what I heard, the 'justification' was that northern France was nearer, and easier to get to than a lot of the rest of England. Anyway, if it's now not happening then it isn't an issue!
Andrew
So why isn't Wiggins cycling the Vuelta, nor Cav yet Froome is? Is he superhuman?
Twinspark
I think it's because Wiggo has been given some time off to do publicity stuff and the Tour of Britain.
Maxyboy
I think a lot of the finishes are on the top of mountains too so that will suit froome
JoeNobody
I think it's because Wiggo has been given some time off to do publicity stuff and the Tour of Britain. He's also in the Tour of Denmark, which starts today. It's a good opportunity to see what Froome's capable of in a Grand Tour - 13s off the top spot in last year's Vuelta, and probably would have won it without team orders to concede time to Wiggins, so why not give him a good crack at it this year? Andrew
Agreed, just wondered that while Froome was working again after the full TdF and the Olympics, why Cav or Wiggins were not quite yet?!
m4ttm4son
I guess Froome is taking the opportunity to step out of their shadow to show, further, what he's made of.
Andrew
Just watched a year in yellow on Sky player and it was awesome. Some of the power outputs he works to are fairly impressive - 440 watts for 30 mins. I think I work at about 250 for some of a 30 min bike workout (and only some)! Inspirational - I am always motivated to train hard after watching stuff like that. I'd love to see a behind the scenes a bit more on his training though - or anyone's - just to see how hard they push on the really intense sessions.
