cruiser647
in the bright metallic blue. Looked OK heading south on the A1, bright Angel Eyes on. Seemed a fair bit chunkier than the previous 3 coupe. sorry, no pics.
NewNiceMrMe
I was chatting about these yesterday.... I don't know if it is just me (and the person I was talking to about them), but they just don't look right in anything other than top model spec. The one you saw would have been close to that. In boggy base spec with the tiny alloys they just don't look right. Wasted, almost. They just look like they're trying very hard. The M model may be completely different. Mook
Nor does a 320ed SE with 16" alloys. Poverty spec car, but it's still a BMW, which a lot of people are happy with I guess.
NewNiceMrMe
Fair point, but I think it stands out more on a 4 series because it has a sporty shape to it. It is difficult to explain but I think the best way to say it is that the whole design/shape of the car appears to lend itself to filled arches, wider tyres from the rear, more exhausts, hunkered down look and feel? So then, when you see it in a clearly unsporty guise, it can't pass it off. If I see a 318i, say, on 16" alloys, I expect it a bit more. Does that make sense? Mook
It does - although I was referring to an E92 Coupe 320ed SE - a mate has one and it's got leather, nav and cruise, but just 16" alloys. Just looks poverty spec. Maybe the new 3 and 4 series with their more sculpted look imply a more sporty look (that sounds so duff!).
Tipex
BMW's in anything other than top spec or M styling have always looked, well, cheap and basic (even if they aren't). It's very rare you see one not with M styling these days, and when you do, it stands out like a sore thumb.
garcon magnifique
Maybe it's because I live in the land of hopeless aspiration where absolutely everyone feels obliged to give the impression they're f*cking loaded despite the clear evidence they're not, but I'd say most BMWs I see are base/SE/whatever spec rather than M Sport. How they look all depends on colour and spec, I suppose. I've seen lots of 4 series and I'm left slightly underwhelmed. I like the 'mini 6 series' cues, but it just seems a bit ... bland. I don't think it enjoys quite the same classic lines as the outgoing E92. Maybe it'll grow on me.
Tipex
I don't think our local dealer sells anything other than M-sport models, I'm sure they pre-tick the box on all orders.
garcon magnifique
Maybe it's just that I've started paying more attention. There are certainly more SE model 5 series out there than I thought, many of them probably harking back to before the M Sport version was launched... Twinspark
I think the SE spec. coupe looks fine - but what the hell are they doing with the emissions? The 4-series is at least 1% higher BIK than the equivalent 3-series, which is now starting to look really bad vs. the latest Volvo diesels. cruiser647
This 435 I saw was an M sport. Or should I say it had the M badge on and the gap between alloys and arch was pretty miniscule. Edited March 10, 2014 by cruiser647
Biscuits
in the bright metallic blue. Looked OK heading south on the A1, bright Angel Eyes on. Seemed a fair bit chunkier than the previous 3 coupe. sorry, no pics. Maybe it was the same one we saw... and I have to say, I was a little underwhelmed if I'm honest. Looked very high on it's feet and a bit plain. Looking forward to seeing the M4, with it's flared arches and wide stance
NewNiceMrMe
Maybe it's because I live in the land of hopeless aspiration where absolutely everyone feels obliged to give the impression they're f*cking loaded despite the clear evidence they're not, but I'd say most BMWs I see are base/SE/whatever spec rather than M Sport. The spec thing is very model specific, apparently. For example, only 20% of all 5 series are M Sport (probably the fleet aspect coming in to that I'd imagine), yet almost 70% of 3 series are M Sport. With the 1 series it is 50/50.
Twinspark
I've noticed an awful lot of 1-series in 'Sport' trim since I got mine. I'd say that's the most popular individual trim level. I don't see too many M Sports at all.
NewNiceMrMe
To be honest that wouldn't surprise me because it is a good compromise. The figures above are at least a year old by the way.
chasdrury
Most of the new 3's I have seen have been xDrive, too...
garcon magnifique
I'd have thought you might have gone for the new Luxury trim on the 5er, NNMM. You can have all the beige and chrome in the world!
NewNiceMrMe
It wasn't out when I ordered. Don't forget I moved away from beige and went for Everest grey. Plus, have you noticed how everyone is now choosing beige on here? I am such a trend setter. Been there, done that, chose Oyster in the X6. Twinspark
I looked at beige, but it was shite. Best colour combo. I've had is the black paint and biscuit colour leather in the Alfa.
garcon magnifique
One thing only the Italians seem to be able to get right is proper tan leather.

jimdiesel
I like the Luxury model line. Some nice combos available. The 435 is only available in luxury and M Sport flavours.

garcon magnifique
I priced one up. Then I priced up a new M4. Less in it than you might imagine.
NewNiceMrMe
That Alfa leather may look nice, but the utter tat of a dashboard that surrounds it just about sums up Alfa Romeo as a brand. I've seen more welcoming wheelie bins than the plastic they've used on that. We had a new Gullietta on holiday. Never again will I choose an Alfa.
