Milo
Any idea why my iPad 3 had suddenly decided to become hotter than the surface of the sun? I've closed all background apps and just browsing but it's getting very hot and it's killing the battery life.

Tipex
I had two Iphone 4s that did that, Apple replaced them.

Twinspark
Interesting - my iPhone gets really, really hot when I'm running SatNav on it - to the point it would shut down to protect itself when we were in Germany last year. Perhaps I should pop into the Apple store with it and ask the question. Tipex - did they do an on the spot swap for you?
Tipex
It was in warranty, and yes, they swapped it on the spot, you have to make an appointment at the genius bar though, which is a pain in the arse.
Milo
Ah, this is outside of warranty. Google seems to think there may have been an issue with overheating iPad 3s. Hmmm. It might be worth a call to the Apple shop.
CarMad
Have you switched it off and on again, its not unknown for the OS to go a bit funny and need a reboot like a PC would. They do get warm when gaming but not red hot that doesn't sound right. How long have you had it? In theory they should honour a 2 year warranty. Milo
I've tried switching it on and off. Still the same. I didn't buy it new (I bought it of forresthills on here), I know it was one of the earlier 3s. It's a shame as it's otherwise a brilliant piece of kit. Twinspark
Try a hard reset - the power button alone isn't enough, it's a 'hibernate' mode, rather than full reset. You need to hold down the home and power buttons for a full reboot.
cruiser647
What's the ios on it? Best to go up to the latest. It's the first thing Apple will recommend before looking at it. Edited April 7, 2014 by cruiser647
