We are going for a week with the F1 included at the end. Got a top gaff in Nice and got good seats for both practice and Race (pity the cars aren't as loud) - but any recommendations for any of it appreciated. Luke Posted April 9, 2014 Report Share Posted April 9, 2014 Monaco GP is an amazing event. I went in '96 and loved ever second of it. It quite often rains, so take a lightweight coat. A camera with a lens rather than an iPhone type. You get great photos there as there's so much to photograph so take something decent. Noise wise, it's a shame the cars are quieter this year but Monaco echoes like you wouldn't believe and you HAD to have ear defenders. It will still be loud but it will be much more bearable. Stay around after the race and walk the circuit. You'll be amazed how steep some parts are. Follow the locals and find a nice little restaurant and have a nice meal afterwards and a couple of beers. Andy_Bangle Posted April 9, 2014 Report Share Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Embrace queues & traffic jams, as Luke said it is probably better to spend some time in Monaco after the race rather than planning to go back straight away as the trains/road are mental. If getting the train make sure you buy your tickets in advance or from the machines at the station, after the race make sure you're on a train that stops in Nice & not one that goes to Italy Instead of coats buy a cheap poncho - keeps you a lot drier if you're stat there in the rain. If you want to go in style either book a boat transfer €60 rtn or a helicopter transfer €120 Visit Antibes to checkout the super yachts and Cannes for the ladies Where are your seats? Soulboy Posted May 28, 2014 Author Report Share Posted May 28, 2014 Fantastic holiday.....loved every minute of it. Visited everywhere mentioned (thankyou), and saw some right sights (dress sense) on the track after the race. It is true that money cant buy taste. What a laugh though - and the party at Rascasse after was epic. The biggest mistake was coming out of the supermarket right next to the start line - without any ear defenders on and a coffee in one hand and an apricot croissant in the other, just in time for the start of the GP2. Jesus wept it was loud!! I was trying to cover my ears with my shoulders as my hands were full. It was like the gates of hell opening. It felt like the inside of my head had been turned to pulp. Are the new ones that quiet now? The V10 engines in '96 were ear splittingly loud and echoed off the walls until you head hurt. CarMad Posted May 28, 2014 Report Share Posted May 28, 2014 Yeah the old F1 cars hurt it was almost too loud, I was a girl and put ear plugs in at most F1 races I went to otherwise i genuinely feared for my hearing if I didn't. Lets hope they can come up with something that increases the volume for next season. One thing every F1 fan should hear in their life (but not at the moment!). Yes, the F1 cars are nowhere near as loud as the GP2, or Formula Renault cars now. And the engines dont sound good, as well as being quieter. Not even like a V6, more like a supercharged 4 pot. Not such a bad thing at Monaco, if you are very close to the cars - but I would imagine really reduces the experience at other circuits. The GP2 at the start at Monaco is the loudest thing I have heard in my life, by a long way. We went and bought extra ear defenders straight away, as the foam ear plugs were nowhere near enough protection. Yet for the F1, I didnt bother with any ear protectors.
