URGENT ADVICE NEEDED - my BMW broken into last night

It seems the purpose of my new CCTV system is to be able to remotely watch 3 people calm as f*ck walk into my driveway last night 2 minutes after I had gone in after fixing something on wife's car, walk to my driver's door, open it (the car was locked), empty my few bits and bobs from the driver side space thingy (my sunglases and work swipe card), try the other doors inc the boot then calmly walk off.

The infamous security gizmo flaw.

What do I do to rectify this asap please as I suspect this was the scout prior to coming to nick it

Guessing they entered your car using a jammer. Did you notice anyone hanging around when you locked it and went in doors? It's possible they accessed the OBDII port and 'dumped' the cars code, with this they can program a new key to start it.

The scenario goes like this: break into car via jammar/smashed window/lock pic etc, dump the code, walk away.  Leave it a few days/weeks till the heat has died down, go back with the reprogrammed key and calmly drive the car away.

BMW maybe are able to change the code in your car, so the scumbags reprogrammed key won't start it - call BMW on 0800 083 4397

A big yellow disc on the steering wheel would be a visible deterrent should they return :(  Also, you could get a third-party immobiliser installed for about £200

I have just watched the whole footage.

I was in the driveway topping up wife's washer fluid, 4 guys strolled past the house.

a few mins later as I walked in and locked up (house and car - my BM was already locked) the just strolled back and calmly walked to the door and unlocked it (with a jammer I think) as the internal lights came on and then he opened the door popped his head in, took the few bits from the side pocked, then someone else I thought was simply wiping down the area but maybe not, closed the door, strolled round to try to passenger door and boot then walked away

I will try to post up the video footage tonight from home

Thanks all.

Well I went to BMW and they have rechecked the security.

It looks they the autolock was disabled on the car so while I locked it, before we left (in other car) the fob may have been pressed while locking house doors and it didn't relock

So they saw there was no Red LED flashing, opened the door and made a quick grab then legged it as a car drove by.

Software updated and tweaks made.

Not nice but thankfully the professional guys etc not the case even though there were 3 of the twats and they are middle aged men not kids

Yes I have knocked on all neighbours doors, called police who will come see footage and someone local said they had seen one of the lads.

NNMM honestly not sure.

Footage clearly shows the car locking (indicators flash) and I have sat through the whole footage and not seen an accidental unlock but I am open to the possibility as they way they simply walked up and opened the door behaves like that (even though we weren't home until just before they came).

The feckers actually walked passed and saw me in the driveway working on wife's car a few mins before so didn't give a sh*t we were in and I had CCTV

He was a fat balding 40 year old, with a younger person (maybe a woman) and a lookout bloke.

To be fair when I say "not sure" I don't really believe I left it unlocked for a whole weekend but as I said keeping an open mind

I'm not sure on your doors being accidentally unlocked, just seems a bit too coincidental for doors to be accidentally unlocked and those guys trying their luck, soon after you going in and they having seen that. One of those key signal catchers seems more likely to allow them to help themselves to the goods in your car. Hopefully a one off but as suggested I would purchase one of those bright yellow Dislok's (about £80) to act as a deterrent incase they do decide to come back.

Funking hell, have you moved to the bronx? You seem to have had nothing but grief since you moved, I'm sure it's not, but it sounds like a proper dodgy area!

I'm trying to piece things together here, but you say the car wasn't used all weekend, and you know you locked it as confirmed by cctv, so we know it was locked (assuming no accidental unlock) therefore it's unlikely they used a jammer to block you locking the car, as you didn't unlock / lock it just before they opened the door, so no signal to block.

Which means they have gained entry some other way, either by a lock picking device, another remote, a shady remote gadget, or forcing entry, you've made no mention of any damage, so we can rule that out, and the alarm didn't sound (I'm assuming it has one, and didn't) so that rules out the lock pick, leaving only another key, or a shady remote copying device.

To use the copying device to gain entry, they need to 'pick' your remote key signal out of the air, but as you didn't use the remote to either unlock or lock the car for a couple of days prior to them breaking in, that seems unlikely too, as why would they wait until they knew you were there to do it?

Which leaves another key having access to the car, which is an old trick used by shady car dealers, garages, valeters etc, has anyone had access to the car, and/or a key? do you trust the dealer you bought it from?

Can BMW check the list of keys authorised in the ECU for any keys you don't have in your possesion? and then obviously delete them.

Most of what I've just said is probably bollox, and I have to admit I don't know how these new devices that allow them to take cars without alarms sounding etc work, but the above is where I'm at currently, although there is of course the possibility the car was not locked, which would be supported by them not being able to open other doors/boot, as they had no key.

Would be interesting to see the footage, might be able to determine if they had time to plug in to the OBD port or not.

No Tipex it is very perceptive.

I asked those questions too,

No damage as you say - I might post up the cctv footage to LOJ for interest.

There are 3 keys registered and active and I have 2.

There is apparently a recall notice for the rear bulb holders so I am going to take both keys I own in when it goes for that (in the next couple days) and they will cancel off the one I dont have.

I don't think it is a shady dealer jobby as the dealership is in Scotland

EDIT: can't do that as it is a 2mb limit so too big.

The Service manager I think was as intrgued as I was so to be fair checked everything and he has advised me to backup all the CCTV footage from this weekend (if there is a theft and insurance wants to take it up with BMW I presume) so he did all these checks.

As to the Hood - I agree it feels like it!

We are adjacent to a VERY nice area so the scum get their jollies looking at the really posh digs them come nearby where they aren't huge mansions so easier pickings (so the PCSO has tol me).

I did have a look as one of them has a satchel slung across his (her?) shoulder but I don't think unless they are very very slick they had time to plug into the port and certainly the cover was still on it when I looked

Forget a bright yellow disklok - purchase a big funkin' nasty dog, set your CCTV to motion detect and the auxiliary output on the DVR to a solenoid that opens the kennel door.

Anyone comes onto your drive and "release the hounds"

But he can take the disklok with him wherever he goes and use it.  A BFND is slightly less portable (and a lot messier).

Also, as an aside re: visual lock indicators - the VWs I've had have bright red LED flashers next to the locking pin on top of the door.  The XKR and both Mercs flash, honk and retract the side mirrors.   So walking past the car, checking the wing mirror is the simple "is it locked?" test.   The Porsches were all different.  I like the MB and Jag (and Aston Martin) solution.
