kevinamarsden
Morning All ! Got my A4 1.8t limited edition ( brilliant red ) on monday. She's lurverly ! Foolishly didn't order multichanger for the Concert 2 and am regretting this now. Do any of you know if the CD lead is pre-installed behind the glovebox in this model so that I can retrofit the changer ? VAG parts can supply the single slot 6 disc changer a tad cheaper than the dealer and I'm just about capable of plugging a lead in to the back of the unit ! Any help much appreciated. Will post piccies of the new motor when I get chance this weekend. Cheers.
Ari
I looked into this exact thing for mine and was told that a. There is no pre installed lead b. If you order the changer from new you get different shaped glovebox internals, therefore to retrofit would cost a fortune as they'd need to strip the glovebox and supply and fit new innards before they could then fit the changer. Find it hard to believe as the inside of my glovebox has a shelf that looks tailor made for a CD changer, but that was what I was told...
kevinamarsden
Ari, Agreed. It does look like the glove box has the shelf for the Autochanger. Never mind, guess I'll just have to risk life and limb changing discs on the move( unless I get an Audi compatible changer with the relevant interface ). I know that this will work out cheaper but it's not really in keeping with the car. Thanks anyway, your new cab looks very nice. Kev
danksy
my A4 avant also has the shelf inside the glovebox for an additional CD changer (6 CD fitted as part of the Symphony Head unit). Its just a case of pulling the stereo out, connecting the relevant plug (theres only one and one way to fit it), and bobs yer uncle. Make sure that vagparts give or can get you the right OEM cable, or otherwise contact your local Car Audio shop! Good luck mate!
kevinamarsden
Thanks Danks ! You gave me hope but then it was dashed by Alan at VAG. Seems the shelf is there but it's apparently not set up for a changer ( i.e. it needs brackets - which he says I could probably have made up ). The changer they have is a boot install and frankly I can't be arsed with that. May speak to a car audio place to see if they can fit a non audi changer in the glovebox. I know there are quite a few compatible ones, it's just a question of getting one that fits in the slot. Surely velcro would keep it in place ? I've seen plenty of others that are secured with velcro. Oh if only I'd ordered it as a factory fit instead of being a tightwad ! Thanks anyway. Big_Dan
It's a hardisk based player which can store MP3s, up to 500 albums worth that integrates with the standard head unit so select songs by category. Looks pretty good to me
kevinamarsden
Interesting. I'll look into that option as well. Thanks.
mrizzo1uk
When I purchased my A4 saloon i too wanted to fit the glove box autochanger but audi said that it would be extremely expensive. I came across the autochanger unit on ebay and gave only £180 which was good as it was only six months old and boxed. I then contacted another local audi dealer who was able to order me a new glove box (complete unit with door) and the loom needed. This turned up the next day and the two items only set me back £98. Result!! The loom came with instructions and it was easy to install only taking 40 minutes. The hardest bit was making sure that you put the right wires from the loom in the right hole in the connector block and simply remove the old glove box and replace. Audi will charge up to £600 for this so this seems to be the way to go.
gizze
I fitted the sony mp3 changer in my A4, went in the glove box in the right hand top section, perfect fit. £199 from halfords including the adapter. have a look at the link in the ice forum, under a3 changer thread. Took 40 minutes to fit including removing head unit and glove box. had to cut the back plate out of teh glove box, just in that top right section. Sounds alot better than the sympony cd, but that was not the reason I added it, it was because I added Nav+ and lost my cd changer that was built in. FlashBastd
I have the audi autochanger in my car, and want to swap it into another A4, is it just a case of swapping the complete glove boxes? Does anyone have an exploded diagram of how the glovebox comes out?
gizze
To take the complete glove box out you need to remove the side panel, undo the 3 torx screws, then open the hlove box and undo the remaining 4 torx screws. The whole unit will then slide out.
nogaro
It's more of a "drops down" as opposed to "slides out". I've had it out numerous times and have the mandatory leftover screws kicking about.
FlashBastd
Presumably swapping the CD changer over should be relatively straightforward? My H/U is a Corus, and it is going into a car with a Concert II (standard single disc in A4 Sport). Is it necessary to remove the changer from the glovebox, or can I get away with just unplugging the changer at the back of the head unit, and removing the glove box as a whole? Thanks
ambo
[ QUOTE ] ex-squeeze me ? What the bejeezers is a phat box ? please elaborate ! [/ QUOTE ] I'd strongly recommend the Phatnoise jukebox. It's more money than the 6 CD changer but you can have your entire CD collection in the car rather than just 6 discs and the quality is excellent. You still need the CD changer cable though (& of course plently of storage on your home PC to copy all your CD's onto!). Mine's in the boot Ambo's Phatnoise jukebox Good luck
FlashBastd
Hi, So I have got my CD changer out, but will the car I am going to fit it in have the wiring loom there? Also do I also need to remove the support bracket that goes beckwards accross the top of the changer? HELP!
