[Audi A3/S3] Where is Bison's review of the revo-technik chip?

I'll post a more indepth comparison later, but essentially, I've had the 3 remaps, and this is what I've been saying about them:

briefely,

AMD: Good for low end torque, but IMHO doesn't last right up the rev range, plus more boost (1.7 bar apparently). Gives a fair belt in the back feeling when setting off.

APR: lighter on the boost (1.35 bar) and power, therefore smoother but lasts right up the rev range, with the rev limiter raised to approx 7300 revs (therefore can reach 60 MPH in second gear OK)

Revo: adds to the power of the APR (10% apparently), and this again lasts all through the rev range from about 3500 revs upwards rather than tailing sharply back like the AMD) - feels more stronger than APR - Also, with the sps3 dongle, you can fine tune the boost/timing for Optimax/octane booster etc.

Revo best for all round results/dongle programming ability IMHO. laugh.gif

I Had Mine done on Saturday...

one of the first things your say, once you have your first test run, in low boost 9 is ... " i need better brakes"

its so much smoother than stock, and just like the Audi map, but more powerful.

and once you go out in highboost 9 your come back saying

" i definately need better brakes! "

If Mitch had big brake set up, out on display when you come back to base, after having a dabble, im sure he sell loads!

Ive been on High boost 9 and timing 7 for Optimax since i got it on Sat,

after the unscuessfull rolling road trip on wednesday

( haldex kept shifting power about on SiTaS3 and unsettling car on rollers, so we gave up)

on way home i set it to " standard chipped" low boost 9

and it isnt enough, once you know what IS avaiable ! ices_blah.gif It goes and goes high up in the revs, but I had to go back to a highboost program and chose Highboost 0 , i prefer the kick! and not having to let the car rev out so far to get it. It suits my cotswolds on and off throttle blasts better.

So assuming that "standard chipped" (low boost 9) is the nearest equivalent to the APR 1.35 chip (so im told by Revo..) then APR owners who swap, to Revo and go for SPS3, will have a pleasant supprise and a fair bit more performance available.....

I am pleased as punch. Disapointed i couldnt get rolling roaded, but thats nothing to do with Revo...

My recommendation for those thinking of doing it, is, brave the confusing modes, and go for SPS3 its worth every penny of the extra £100 for the switch and the modes soon become easy to use... you will only want to get it later, if you dont get it now....

Even in High boost 9, my DIS is displaying 28.3 MPG and thats enthusiastic driving......

and to quote two other people (my findings match!).....

[ QUOTE ]

At low boost 9 the power comes in at about 2.5k revs and stays all the way to the red. in higher boost it comes in a little later but harder. The real scary thing is 75-100+ mph is fecking quick and licence losing turf

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]

You can have a free 2 hours to play with it, thats daft really cos you will certainly say yes after 2 minutes !The differance is instant and stunning. The bonnet stays shut during the install

I find this hard to believe, mine doesnt return 28mpg even in standard mode.

I get about 23-24 mpg in the high boost APR program

sounds good though, i'd like to have a spin to see what its like

my twopennies worth..

straight away it is noticeably quicker than the APR programme I had previously (1.35 bar high boost). Alledgedly the REVO remap I have is running 1.4 bar, not as much as Paul can get with his dongle thing (I guess I'm the equivalent of low boost 9 or whatever Paul calls it smile.gif.) I dont have a dongle as yet, but will be getting one (I never switched my APR system previously so...)

So its defenitely quicker, much more of a kick around 3500 rpm, and I think it revs higher than my previous APR did.

I really liked the APR remap but the REVO is better, in so far as it is quicker..

PS If you dont already have a remap, then REVO has to be a strong contender simply because they dont need to open up your engine - which has to help

I got Revo'd by Powermap on Saturday with the SPS3 dongle thing. First thing that strikes you is how quick and painless the whole process is (1/2 hour) and then it's play time grin.gif

I can't compare it to any other chip as I've gone straight from standard and on the "Performance" mode without any tinkering of the SPS jobbie, it is the boy laugh.gif

Bastard quick and a true license looser. The motorway is an absolute fine example of this as the torque in 6th at 70 odd is just too much of a temptation grin.gif I seriously wanted to pull over and put it back to standard on the M4 last night as you can't resist any overtaking opportunity. I don't know how a Boxter S goes at this speed but the one last night that I creamed was not happy at all. lol.gif

I love the SPS3's ability to tune your own car with ease and the security function is also a quality bonus.

So far so good and I'll keep you posted as I need far much more time to play.

Well done Revo and Powermap for making this so simple and effective.

How's the 330? You are a family man so have a good excuse yelrotflmao.gif

Hope all is well,

The remap comes to £586 incl vat. Thats for the remap only with no dongle or tuning ability. i think the dongle to switch between standard/performance programmes costs about £150. Not sure about the fully tunable option though. getting mine done on Monday cool.gif

Check out the site www.revotechnik.com i'm sure they have a price list on the site somewhere.

Hi guys, My car has just been given the 'REVO' treatment too, got it back on wednesday. Well what can i say?? BLODDY HELL its fantastic. The car is so much smoother, the power is available so early and throughout the rev range. Even you dont want to drive like a bat out of hell u cant help it, the power kicks in like a massive kick up the arse but without the pain. This is how the S3 should have been straight out of the box. Its a joy to drive and gives that massive grin on ur face look everytime u press that pedal. I can see myself collecting some points off the 5-0 very soon if im not too careful.

If anyone is still contemplating getting the Revo chip then stop thinking and just do it. i definately recommend it 100%.

the only thing i havent decided on yet is which switch 'dongle' i should get ??

Go with SPS 3 IMHO.... i was 50/50 then thought sod it, and bought SPS3. Glad I did!!! because otherwise you will always wonder!

if your on standard Chipped... wait until you try Highboost 9 set to Optimax timing... yelrotflmao.gif

Read my mini review.... its back a page and also on Revo site beerchug.gif

Mo

Nothing has been published yet. I too am very interested in the published data, when its available...

Standard Chipped (low boost9 ) is supposed to be the nearest equivalent, to the Former apr 1.35bar program, but smoother and more powerful im told. so I guess (and i stress its a guess) its at least 265 brake....

Now.. as for high boost9 ... there is no figures published yet.... But i can tell you there is a Huge difference between low boost 9 and High boost 9, when it comes to what you feel when you drive it, and of course the speed and acceleration.

I went to get car Rolling roaded, but the Dyno operator was unsucessfull getting SiTa's car to output power, as haldex kept shifting power back and forth... and unsettled the car. So we didnt even bother with mine.

So I still want a dyno graph for both maps soon!

I promiss you SPS3 will put a further grin on your face!

assuming Revo left you in "standard chipped" mode...
