craigyb
Just wondering cos I've had an origin B2 sat in its box for over 3 months if it will work in an S8, I noticed that the S8 sat receiver is on the boot, is it because you can't pick anything up inside the cab? or does anyone have a B2 or snooper running from an internal GPS receiver. Sven
IIRC PaulW fitted one underneath the rear parcel shelf. Probably not a good idea if you have tints tho... Haven't figuered whether it'd be possible to use some kind of splitter and use the GPS antenna for both... Otherwise, one of these new 'stubby' type GPS annenna's might look okay on the roof I guess. cruiser647
I have recently tested the Tom Tom Go. Little independent box with all the bits. Tested it for work to see if our Reps would like it for the first few months on the job, trying to find surgeries and hospitals. I had no probs with it picking up signal. I did not have it on the windscreen, but had it suckered down on the cup holder cover. Lovely flat wood surface. Not that the Reps cars will have that much space. Good little gizmo, BUT it costs £400! Good for planning a route and getting places, as it is very quick at recalculating. I have no desire for one, but they are nice - just remember to take it with you each time you leave the car.
fenn
Had a lot of trouble getting the Origin B2 to work on the previous S8-it was o.k. on the A8 before that, but I had to put the receiver OUTSIDE the front screen to got it to work on the S8-likewise on the current S8-as long as it's well weather protected it should be o.k.-the Origin is great though isn't it-has anybody tried the PHOTOBLOCKER yet?-would be interested in some unbiased advice-so far it seems that they will obscure the plate with a "backflash",but I've been told that the police can use a "reverse nagative" on the pkhotos to get the nos. up
fudge
I can't comment on the Origin B2 but my IPAQ 3970 with Navman GPS sleeve works perfectly stuck to the front screen in my (new to me) S8 (post facelift 9/99 build without heated front screen). So on my car the front screen is certainly not blocking the GPS signal. Some front screens do block the signal eg most modern Peugeots (some kind of metal(gold?) film on the glass) but not my brothers RangeRover with heated screen. PS New the S8 would be a great car but I did not realise just how good! Richard
stv
hi, i wonder why i cant seem to get a good signal from my pda based sat/nav when the receiver sits on the dash....can only get signal when its on the outside.......are some receivers more powerful than others. stv a8 4.
audia8s2
I think we've mentioned this before, my mates Garmin sat nav doesn't work inside my A8, an external aerial is required.
ryoung
but the Garmin GPSIII works fine sitting on a velcro strip in the center of the dashboard of my '01 S8. Randy

Randy [/ QUOTE ] Has it had the wrong windscreen fitted at some stage???? or maybe my mates older Garmin streetpilot doesn't have as good a reception as your streetpilot III, I think his is a version II. Sven
Dunno, but maybe one is heated, and the other not? (the windscreen that is, not the Garmin)
craigyb
My Garmin GPS-12 works fine in the front windscreen of my 2002 S8, so maybe the B2 will work. Craig
