Chelsea Mick Posted August 30, 2004 Report Share Posted August 30, 2004 It appears that you do have the right subscription (more than 1 premium channels) to get Sky+ subscription for no extra charge. But as mentioned in an earlier post you will need to upgrade your equipment. The LNB (this is the little box at the very front of the arm on your dish) for Sky+ has 4 outputs. Sky+ uses 2 outputs from the LNB, the other 2 outputs can be used for another Sky+ box or an extra 2 normal boxes. At the moment Sky are doing Sky+ for £149. Installation looks to be £60 or if you subscribe to the multi-room install it is free but an extra £10 a month for the duplicate viewing card. If you go to http://www.ordersky.com/equipment/skyplus.asp then it's £99, and installation is free (which will include a new Quad LNB, extra cables being run, and if you are taking out a dual subscription and keeping your other box they will reposition it anywhere in the house). If you have young kids I highly recommend the dual box option which allows you to watch different channels in different rooms with a mirrored subscription. I have both sky boxes in the front room (Sky+ and normal Sky use different IR signals so they don't interfer with each other) and have them plugged in to the TV cables which run into all rooms. So on channel 6 we have Sky+, and channel 7 normal Sky. This way the kids can watch channel 7 in their bedrooms for cartoons etc leaving Sky+ for us parents - without this, we'd never get to watch what we wanted Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would say try it, and if it's not possible, just phone Sky up and say you want to take the £99 offer to upgrade but are not a new customer. Aspect ratio: Sky+ viewers who have connected a TV in a another room via TV Link will now be able to change the picture setting (to 4:3 or 16:9) for TVs in a second room that are connected via a TV Link. gizze Posted August 30, 2004 Report Share Posted August 30, 2004 One thing to bear in mind is the Hi-def boxes will be out next year, and so both the current and the newer 160gig box will have to be replaced if you want to go the Hi-Definition route. The Sky+ boxes I would definitely buy new, they are failing all over the place, we were at a bbq yesterday and I mentioned that I am on my fourth one in 2 years, do have it in both rooms, and 4 other people there that had sky+ had all had at least one boxed replaced and one of them was on his third. I replied that they were now only £99 and they said that it is only for new customers. I also bought 2 digital stb's when they were released at £199 each and they gave them away free a couple of months later, and they charged me for 2 subs for the first year as the second sub for £10 was not available then. I will pick up another version 1 or 2 box when I see one at a reasonable price but I am not going to give them another £400, until they make the picture quality better. Snail Posted September 1, 2004 Report Share Posted September 1, 2004 Mate, whats knackered about your box? most boxes just have dead HDDs, and so people just put a bigger drive in, and bobs ya uncle....working like a charm, and more disk space. If you have any linkys I'd appreciate it mate, as I'm contemplating an upgrade even though my box is only 2 weeks old! [/ QUOTE ] You are correct, however the latest firmware that Sky just sent out to all the boxes aparrently removes this limitation as they are going to start shipping their own 160Gb units soon. A few people are doing tests to see if indeed they can write beyond the 137gb limit.
