A3Floyd
I brought one for my 1999 S3 and it kept blowing the fuse so my answer would be 'no'. I think the holder is very slightly different. It fits in the wifes Yaris nicely though so at least the money wasn't wasted!

gambba
It will work in any car as there is a universal standard for automotive cigarette lighters.....otherwise can you imagine how many mobile phone chargers you need to keep in stock So the short is, the Toureg light will go in any car...and know a few A3's an S3 and an S8 with them without trouble. I would suggest that the one that kept blowing the fuse was FUBAR and needs replacing.
Viraje
Just for the record, a 4-cell mag torch fits perfectly in the glove box, although the batteries rattle.
A3Floyd
thats not quite true. i compared the socket in the S3 with the one in my wifes Yaris and they are indeed different inside regarding where the negative connector sits. basically, the negative connector on the Yaris is not as close to the positive connector as it is on the S3. on looking at the S3 socket, it's easy to see why the metal casing on the torch is causing the negative to short to the positive. In short, the design of the torch casing is not compatible with the design of the socket. regarding the phone charger example, you'll notice that the phone chargers are a universal design and thus incorporate the designs of both connectors plus the casing is 95% plastic so there's never much of an issue regarding short circuiting. I can understand your point but in reality, there are 2 different socket standards out there and the socket design on the A3/S3 is not the same as that on the Toureg - hence they are incompatible. If the torch casing was plastic, there wouldn't be an issue as you can bend the holding clips inwards so that the socket holds the torch ok. I hope that made sense!! Drillslinger
It fits my TQ with no problems, HOWEVER, in my Dad's A6 it's JUST a bit looser, and manages to short out This was the same light too
