S3 Tuning advice

Hi folks, am new to the forum and have come seeking advice!

I currently run an Impreza P1 with an Ecutek remap, GGR 3" system, K&N etc etc making about 320bhp/310tq.

Old age must be creeping up on me because I've decided I fancy something a bit less "lairy" and a bit more subtle (and better put together!!) and am looking at getting an S3.

Without wishing to go mad I would like to try and get a bit more ooomph out of the S3. My understanding is that a remap can liberate about 260 - 270bhp without having to start changing exhausts etc etc. What are the opinions on the various remaps available for the S3? I'm looking for an easy OBD type remap.

I would also like to change the brakes too - what are the popular kits for the S3?

Sorry to be such a numpty - I could bore you to tears with info on modding Imprezas but am a total newbie when it comes to Audis blush.gif

Thanks!

S3 tuning is big business.. just like scoobies...

I'm not an expert like some of the others on here but I'll start it off...

Chipping the ECu is the easiest and fastest way of upping the bhp.. Talk to companies such as MTM, AMD, REVO, ABT and others. This will take you to around 250 to 270 bhp.. and also remove any flat spots... some chips can make the turbo a bit 'laggy'.. depends on whether or not you like that!!

Next come exhausts and better breathing for the engine. New turbo's, down pipees, EUC and stuff can take you upto 330bhp.. NICE laugh.gif

Brakes are a complete subject in their own. You can start by changing pads to something like 'greenstuff' but be careful of your discs... if you want the full monty the go for something like movit or a porker equilivent

Cheers

Thought that might be the case! laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

I want to try and avoid going too mad - so reckon I'll start out with just the remap. I've heard the AMD one is good - who are the good tuners for Audis in the UK?

As for the brakes, I was planning on a whole new kit: have heard that Movit and Brembo do good kits for the S3.

AMD are an excellent outfit and I have only heard good things about their products and their aftersalees service (which is just as important).

Before the V6 TT I had a RS6 which I had chipped by Abt.. I was very pleased with it, but they tend to be expensive and arn't so available in the uk since they closed down the main office.

MTM is also a good chip that gives a good release of power.. A couple of the guys on here have MTM and they have been delighted.. maybe gives a bit more turbo lag than the AMD version, but when that turbo bites it gives you a real shove in the back.

Others to consider are REVO who just chip via the serial port (which is good for warranty claims as the chip isn't removed) and also companies such as ottinger. Of course superchips are around but most people disregard them.

Movit's are the dogs danglies when it comes to audi brakes.. by far the best , in my opinion. Not cheap but worth every penny.. I was going to have the RS6 done (£6000!!!), but sold it before I got round to it..

You can have a lot of fun with the S3 and it won't let you down.

Oh, it's also worth replacing the dump valves.. the standard ones aren't upto the job when you up the power.. they're not expensive so make sure you get those done too

Cheers

I wouldnt discount superchips, as many of the cars in the VW Cup run superchips remaps, and if they can last on a track without repeated engine rebuilds then they should certainly last on the road.

The other tuner to consider is Oettinger, there products are available through RSD Website who are based in Daventry now. I have driven Oettinger ramaped cars and must say I like there conversion as it gives an impressive rise in performance but doesnt feel too 'brutal'.

Yes.. have only heard good things about Oettinger.. tried to look into them for my RS6 but they wern't easy to contact. Now they have a 'proper' outlet in the uk things might be easier.

I've never driven an Oettinger but everyone I have spoken too with an Oettinger remap has been very happy

I have to say for the budget concious? consider upsolute ive had my 210 done by serial port upgrade (chip change is poss) and boy the difference is incredible and a lot cheaper than others, plus they come to you and do it at your place of choice so thats not bad, im going to get mine RR in a couple of weeks so will report back, im thinking about 240-250ish but upto about 280 or so on torque as thats where ive noticed it most
