So I'm guessing the area they opened me up on Thursday is starting to heal, but I can't see that because it's covered with a big waterproof patch & gauze to protect it. Which also means I can't scratch the ****er. It's driving me feckin nuts right now!!!! Have any of you Dr's / medics got a suggestion that would help?? PLEASE!!!! Pruritus (posh word for itching)is caused by receptors in the dermis of the skin getting irritated. The receptors send a signal through fibers in the skin to your spinal cord and then up to the cerebral cortex. When you get an itch, first thing you wanna do is scratch it. The reason being that you mind tells your body to remove the irritant. So, once you scratch, you feel get relief. When your brain realizes that you've scratched away the irritant, the signal being sent to your brain that you have an itch is interrupted and therefore no longer recognized by the brain. So.. in theory.. if you get someone to stamp on your toe, then your signal will be interupted pre-scratch, and you wont be itchy anymore. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you get caught by some, do not touch the area. Then, no itching occurs. It's hard wotk for about 20 secs, but for some reason the nettles don't have the same effect.
