Steve_C_Nwales
Ok, 2 days ago, I could only get 2nd gear. Yesterday I managed to move the gear lever into other gears, now I can get every gear apart from 1st????? Has anyone got a clue as to what might be wrong???? Cars not off the road yet as I can still pull away in 2nd even 3rd and 4th if the need arises.
A3Floyd
isn't this a known fault with the new cabs?? i'm sure i've heard other people mention the same problem. Sorry to hear about it though. At least you have the reassurance of a dealer warruntee.
Steve_C_Nwales
Warrenty!!! lol they wont cover tuned motors last time I checked. Also it's an old (!!lol!!) 93 100 S4, with the six speed box.
s4dreamer
Sounds a bit like either a linkage has bent or a synchromesh failure. Can you get it into reverse ? Can you get it into first by double de-clutching (whatever that may be ) ?
Steve_C_Nwales
ok, all gears are accessable apart from first, which will go with some good force, this is what's confusing me as to what the problem is.
ChrisT
I'd go for a linkage problem. With my first car (Nova) it was a common thing and you had to re-align the linkage every couple of years as you would loose a few gears (1st, 2nd and reverse which was above 1st). There was quite a simple little procedure you had to do which took about 5 mins and suddenly all was good again, and all you needed was a drill bit to use as a pin. It might be worth giving central audi a call to see if they have heard of a similar thing for your car. Cheers, Chris.
Steve_C_Nwales
I have called em, and they are prepping a spare box just in case :-( Still, I have to look on the funny side, I can still pull away in second faster than most in first! lol
ChrisT
Steve, Did you manage to sort your problem?? My A3 was behaving very similarly and now I've just lost 1st, 2nd and reverse which made parking very interesting. I'll try and drag it down to the local specialist tomorrow, but just wanted to have an idea of what the problem is. Cheers, Chris.
