GCab
How does the trip timer thing work ? Several times I'll do maybe one drive (say 30 mins), leave the car for quite a long period, then come back to find it says something totally random like 47 mins or 17 mins at startup. (can't remember if it's always below or always above last trip time, or varies). I know it makes some sort of allowance for short breaks (why?) but I can't make out any pattern in it at all. Sometimes I just want to work out how long it took me to get from A to B as an estimate of how long it should take me from B to A; but by the time I get back in the car, it's reading something like A-to-B plus 30% or whatever. Bizarre. Any clues ? I don't think it's a fault - both my Cabs have done the same, so I'm obviously just misunderstanding how it works.
Ari
Completely confused! There are two settings, 1 & 2. 1 is individual trips, and 2 is culmative (ie it'll keep counting away till you reset it). This applies to all the other DIS settings (MPG etc) as well. You scroll between them using the reset button under the stalk. It cycles through "1", "2", "DIS display off", "1", "2", "DIS display off" etc. Pressing and holding that button zeros the reading it is currently showing. Either one will only count when the ignition is on. If the ignition is on it'll count up, if its off then it won't. The "1" setting will not reset until you've been parked with ignition off for (I think) 2 hours. This is so that if you stop for lunch (for example) on a journey it won't reset itself. And thats it really...
UBM
10/10 Ari - thought about getting a job at the stealers?
GCab
Nah, he'd be disqualified as a smartarse who'd done things like, er, get inside an Audi and look around Sounds as if I've been looking at display 2 and wondering why it adds up to more than the trip time (display 1). Bit odd since if it was a multiple (i.e. 2 or 3 trips) I'd have thought I would have noticed that (it seemed to be more odd numbers, if you see what I mean), but maybe I just didn't spot the connection. Phantom
Just curious to hear if anyone else has had any trouble with their tripmeter reset buttons ?, the zero reset one on the dash as opposed to the one on the stalk ? Mine has decided to play up and my dealer said it would be £500 to replace , the entire dash display.... . Bloody rediculous as the button itself is only about 50p !!, even though it is under warranty I can't be ar*ed to take the car in for that
Chav
no mines fine. i always reset it when i fill the tank up, so i can see how many (or little) miles i get to a tank. if its under warranty, why do you have to pay?
Phantom
No I wouldn't have to pay, just didn't want to be without the car for something so minor !, will probably get it sorted at the next service. Guess I was just highlighting the high cost of a replacement dash that was all
