Waylander
wife took my dad [who is registerred disabled] to the bank. parked where everyone parks to go to this bank, he was in the car and had his blue badge out. she came out to be confronted by a warden ticketing the car and she [warden] said you are not allowed to park here from 7-7. It is a single-yellow line on the road; admittedly there are signs nearby saying no parking/loading 7-7 but is there any recourse because of the blue-badge holder being present in car with the badge displayed? she gave no opportunity to "move on" and slapped the ticket on straight away... she also told my wife she would write on the ticket that she had "spoken with her" whatever relevance that has! UBM
I got off one when my wifes father was in a wheelchair. We left the car outside on a single yellow and got a ticket. I wrote a letter to say he was in a wheelchair and musthave been in the process of loading the car. I got off! How does the parky know you hadn't gone to fetch a wheelchair to get your relation out the car. I would appeal! PS Lay it on thick!
scooby_simon
The solution IIRC is to drive off quickly before they (warden) has stuck the ticket on. I believe that if the ticket has not been 'stuck on' you do not have to pay. Wonder if AS has the definitive answer ?
Frodo
Yes agree, you should appeal. Although I have always had more luck at railways stations than council car parks. What really winds me up is the new parking facilities that request a number plate so you can't transfer tickets. Funny how they have managed to introduce this technology but can't get the machine to give change!

You have to be careful because if you do it a lot they get wise and try the sneaky "dive bombing" ticketing approach!

Waylander
i just got the full story from them and dad had gone into the bank with my wife as well [not remaining in th car as i assumed], so yes she drove him and the badge was used to park in front of the bank to allow my dad to walk the short distance into the bank. incidently [if it crossed anyone's mind!] no member of our family is allowed [by mum/dad] to use the badges incorrectly nor do any of us do so given that we know how hard it is for our folks and hence must be for other legit blue badge holders hence wifey using dad's badge when he wasnt there was nt the case! Even though the cow hurriedly scribbled the ticket when they called to attract her attention on leaving the bank, she told my wife to write in [presumably on seeing my dad avec sticks]. only hesitattion though is that someone told me with a badge in this case you are allowed to park on single yellows regardless of signs as long as there are no kerb markings...but there as a single line on the kerb too.... now where is audi smitten when you need him...typical copper! ian_m
[ QUOTE ] now where is audi smitten when you need him...typical copper! [/ QUOTE ] OOOOOOOOOOOH! Now now!! I am here now! ok, firstly Scooby doo is right, if you can get in the car and leave before the twat has stuck the ticket on, you are safe . However, I can see that its not the case here so enough of that. It was always my opinion that blue badge holders can, for want of a better phrase "do what they like"!. The fact that the of a traffic warden, saw your dad on his sticks makes me even more livid! Without a doubt you should write a letter to the relevant department!, make sure that the letter reflects the fact that your dad really does find it hard to walk a long way and that your understanding of the blue badge was that you/your wife could park there! I will make an enquiry tomorrow for the definitive answer but in the meantime I would pen that letter and hopefully the 's will realise what heartless b*stards they have been! In relation to the "I will note that i spoke to you part" the only way that this would be of any relevance is, for instance if your mrs had said something like "I couldnt be bothereed to find a space, etc" that bit is more designed for someone blatantly in the wrong, the comment is basically the evidence. You have a good case here, I will do my best to find the definitive tomorrow! Just incase you wonder where I am tomorrow, I will be on after 6ish ! ( i will be here for a while now though!) Calm Chris
I thought blue disabled badges had to be assigned to a maximum of two fixed registration numbers. That the badges can only be used on the cars they are registered to. This normally being the car owned by the registered disabled driver and one 'support' car, normally a relative, for use only when the disabled person is in the car. Hope I'm wrong! ian_m
I will admit that I really need to research this one, I am not one for issuing many tickets, especially parking ones!
Calm Chris
Its one of those odd ones, I'm pretty sure the rules also change from local authority to local authority. Parking and the profit making from box traps, traffic lights, bus lane cameras seems to be a Council rather than police issue in London. Just to make it harder they change the rules. Classic one is a open bus lane with a 4pm-7pm keep out, driving along at 3pm, then follow into the same bus lane over a box junction and the otherside will have a 3pm-7pm keep out! Hey presto that's another £60, signs are nice and discret, just to make it harder.
R32Ash
I found this just doing a quick search on Google. I know it's a different Local Authority area, but might the rules be the same? On about page 5 there's some info on usage restrictions etc. Ash.
Calm Chris
Looks as if it should be a case of wrongly issued ticket, well in Torbay. PDF is 2003 whuch could be 2 y.o. loads here in London has changed since then (thanks- not - Ken). Best of luck
