UBM
You may remember a few weeks ago some of you suggested I tell my insurance company about my styling mods (I'd told them about the tuning box already). Well, I called them and they said don't bother. So, I wrote a letter with all the changes I've made and enclosed some recent pictures. Got a letter back today, no increase in premium, but the grill and rear parking sensor appear on the policy now. The mirrors etc don't. So, thanks everyone - it was worth doing. steve2
what did they put on top for the tuning box, also what do you lot out there pay extra for improved performance?
UBM
Not sure exactly - I swapped insurers from morethan to egg and the premium stayed about the same (morethan was without the tuning box). I'd guess at about 80 quid a year for a 21-30% increase in power.
steve2
that is a reasonable outlay for the extra power
JamesB
Very reasonable. When I enquired, a 10% power increase equalled nearly £250.

JamesB
That was on the (garaged suburban) S4 so only 34 bhp The current insurance situation doesn't bear talking about.

UBM
I was only guessing at the £80 last night. I've been back this morning and got a quote for insurance on the basic car with no mods - £421 per year. For the quote I'm currently paying - £652. So about £250 for an extra 30BHP is about right. Sorry if any confusion - will not guess again!

UBM
Egg car Insurance - on-line quote (including a 10% discount). Thats for 16k miles per year and the wife and 10 years no claims (although 5 years is the max!)
Sparky
Arse. I've just signed up there. 7 years no claims, protected and got charged £681!! Is my age not helping here? I'm 26.
UBM
Could be, mine is a little less with all the mods, but I have got a £250 excess! I'm an old git! (34)

UBM
And you might have a safer postcode. Although I live in rural herts I still get a Stevenage postcode...

[/ QUOTE ] Post code ratings are usually at least at the XXNN X level, in our case SG10 A level, so the Stevenage factor does not (or should not) be an issue

Milo
[ QUOTE ] And you might have a safer postcode... [/ QUOTE ] True. I think all the NE used to be high 10-14 years ago as it was car crime capital. I don't think it's weighted so much now and I do live in possibly a lighter rated area. Personally, I'm chuffed to bits with how much I pay. I rang 'round last year at renewal but no-one could come close so I left it with esure. I had a quote for a 190 PS s-line a couple mnths back and they wanted an extra £31 a year so still only around £400.
UBM
Hmmm - this policy I had was cheapest by far. OF course, I was limited cos of the mods!
Scotty
I'm with Elephant who had no issues with the mods. I'm paying £850 which is 20% cheaper than my old TT insurance. After I'd bought the car and put a private plate on I went on line to change the details. It said it would cost me about £5. When I clicked through it must have got a complete new quote and that meant they paid me £15.
